Job Description
King & Moffatt Building Services are seeking an experienced Operational Trainer to support the development of electrical apprentices and tradespeople within our building services division.
This role plays a key part in developing practical skills, technical competence, and safety awareness across our workforce. The successful candidate will ensure apprentices progress effectively from foundational to qualified levels, aligned with company standards, national frameworks, and project requirements.
Working within the Learning & Development team and supporting Site Operations, this is an ideal opportunity for an experienced electrical professional who is passionate about mentoring and developing the next generation of talent.
What you would do
- Work closely with site management, the Training Coordinator, and the recruitment team to support apprentice intake targets
- Deliver structured, hands-on training in electrical systems and building services applications (e.g., lighting, power distribution, containment, controls)
- Provide on-site coaching, skills assessments, and development planning for apprentices
- Support apprentices in achieving key milestones including logbook completion, assessment readiness, and technical competence
- Conduct regular progress reviews and maintain accurate training and competency records
- Develop and maintain training resources aligned with national competency frameworks and current regulations
- Identify site-specific skills gaps and provide targeted remedial training in partnership with site managers
- Assist with induction and onboarding of new apprentices, ensuring understanding of safety and career progression pathways
- Support audits and inspections by maintaining accurate, verifiable training documentation
- Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous professional development across projects
- Liaise with colleges, training providers, and accreditation bodies to ensure curriculum alignment
- Attend apprenticeship career events and support apprentice award nominations
- Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and refresher training as required
- Visit active project sites on an ad-hoc basis to support apprentices
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation, company policies, and EHSQ requirement
Qualifications
- Recognised qualification in Electrical Trade or Engineering
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the electrical building services industry
- Up-to-date knowledge of wiring regulations, construction site safety, and industry best practice
- Experience mentoring or training apprentices or junior tradespeople
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Organised and able to manage multiple training priorities across active sites
- Competent using digital tools for training delivery and record-keeping (e.g., MS Office, LMS platforms)
- Committed to high standards in safety, compliance, and workmanship
Additional Information
- Certificate in Training and Assessment (desirable)
- Experience supporting apprenticeship audits or inspections
- Passion for developing young talent and supporting career progression
- Experience working within a large-scale project or multi-site environment
Given the project-based nature of the work carried out by K&M, your role requires some travel; however, this would not exceed 20% of total working time on average.
