What is the Role:
- The MQ Level 4 role is a senior technical leadership position within Enterprise Delivery, responsible for the stability, performance, security and strategic direction of the IBM MQ estate across mainframe and distributed platforms.
- The role holder will act as a technical authority for MQ, providing deep subject matter expertise, leading complex problem resolution, supporting major change initiatives, and ensuring MQ services are resilient, scalable and aligned to enterprise integration strategy.
- This role works closely with application teams, infrastructure, security, vendors and service partners to ensure MQ continues to operate as a mission critical messaging platform for the organisation.
Key accountabilities;
- Provide L4 technical ownership for the IBM MQ platform across z/OS and distributed environments.
- Act as final escalation point for complex MQ incidents, including performance degradation, availability issues and data integrity concerns.
- Lead root cause analysis for major incidents and ensure robust, sustainable remediation.
- Own and maintain MQ technical standards, configuration patterns and operational best practice.
- Drive capacity planning, performance tuning and resilience improvements across the MQ estate.
- Assess, design and govern MQ-related change, ensuring changes are safe, well designed and aligned to enterprise architecture.
- Provide technical leadership for MQ upgrades, migrations, security enhancements and automation initiatives.
- Partner with Cyber Security to ensure MQ configurations meet security, audit and compliance requirements.
- Work with vendors (e.g. IBM) to manage support engagements, defects and product roadmaps.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, raising overall MQ capability and reducing operational risk.
- Contribute to technology strategy, roadmaps and investment planning for integration platforms.
What you Will Bring;
- Deep, hands on experience administering IBM MQ in largescale enterprise environments.
- Strong experience of MQ on z/OS and distributed platforms (Linux / Windows).
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex MQ performance and stability issues.
- Experience with MQ security concepts including TLS, certificates, channel security and authentication.
- Strong understanding of high availability, disaster recovery and resilience patterns for MQ.
- Experience working in highly regulated, 24x7 production environments.
- Ability to lead technical decisions and communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
