The Team
The Datacentre and Energy (DCE) organization is seeking an experienced applications engineer to support the Power Controller (PWC) team in Limerick.
Job Description
The Datacentre and Energy group is seeking a motivated, technology focused, experienced applications engineer to be part of our growing product development team. Within this role the engineer may manage multiple projects and priorities supporting temperature controller products.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving and communications capabilities, providing development and technical support with the ability to both self-lead and work within a team as required.
Role Overview
The Product Applications role supports Temperature controller products across the full product development cycle—providing hands-on debug, design guidance, and customer design-cycle support. You’ll create and deliver the tools and collateral that help teams and customers succeed, including evaluation material, reference designs, and clear documentation. Success in this role requires strong electronics fundamentals, high curiosity, and the ability to learn new concepts quickly and apply them in real designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, bench test, and debug electronic circuits; provide troubleshooting support through the product lifecycle.
- Perform structured debugging and root-cause analysis for new and existing designs.
- Execute thorough new-product evaluations and test plans, document findings, and limitations clearly.
- Support existing products for field applications engineers and customers.
- Develop user guides, datasheets, application notes, and other reference materials.
- Act as a customer advocate within development teams to support informed design decisions.
- Build or extend test automation to improve efficiency and repeatability (scripts, data processing, lab workflows)
- Collaborate across applications, marketing, field sales, and customers to communicate technical topics clearly.
Required Skills
- Strong fundamentals in electronics (analog and digital): resistors/capacitors/diodes, basic circuit analysis, and practical lab debugging.
- Digital interface understanding and debug capability (ability to learn and work with common interfaces and timing/logic behaviour)
- Programming/scripting understanding to create, modify, and maintain code for analysis or automation; comfortable using AI tools to generate code and then validate and adapt it.
- Experience with schematic capture, PCB design exposure, and simulation tools
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, etc.)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proactive learning mindset: able to learn new concepts by applying core electronics fundamentals.
Preferred
- Experience with power electronics and control concepts (advantage)
- Experience with temperature sensing electronics (advantage)
Qualifications
- Honours Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Electronic & Computer Engineering, or related field
- Experience level aligned to Staff/P4 scope (typically 7+ years in semiconductor, power, or applications roles, depending on internal levelling)
