Staff Nurse – Riverview Intellectual Disability Service


We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Staff Nurse to join our newly opened Riverview Intellectual Disability Service. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing high-quality, person-centred nursing care and supporting residents to achieve the best possible quality of life within a safe and supportive environment.


PLEASE NOTE:

A full clean manual driving licence is an essential requirement for this role, as the successful candidate will be required to accompany residents to appointments and activities within the community. We cannot proceed with applications from candidates who do not hold a full clean manual driving licence.


Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

Required:

  • A full clean manual driving licence is essential.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Genuine interest and commitment to working with people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Qualified Registered Nurse with registration with An Bord Altranais / NMBI.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong commitment to delivering high standards of care.

Desired:

  • Experience and/or qualifications in caring for individuals with intellectual disabilities or a relevant client group.
  • Knowledge and understanding of HIQA Standards.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience.


Main Responsibilities

Care Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all staff contribute to the effective running of the service and the creation of an environment that promotes the best interests, dignity, independence, and wellbeing of residents.
  • Monitor and report any changes in residents’ health status and arrange GP or professional healthcare reviews when required.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and review individualised care plans in partnership with residents, families, and members of the multidisciplinary team, in line with NMBI guidelines and organisational policies.
  • Assess residents’ nursing, health, social, and personal care needs and provide appropriate nursing interventions and support.
  • Complete ongoing assessments and reviews to ensure residents receive appropriate, person-centred care.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation and ensure each resident has an individualised care plan that is reviewed regularly and updated as required.
  • Carry out regular checks on residents and ensure appropriate monitoring is completed.
  • Provide clear and effective handovers to relevant team members at the end of each shift.
  • Administer prescribed medications safely and accurately, maintaining appropriate records in accordance with organisational procedures and NMBI guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity when supporting residents, including respecting their personal, financial, and private affairs.

Communication Responsibilities:

  • Participate in staff meetings, resident meetings, and reviews as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with residents, families, colleagues, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide administrative support and complete documentation as required.
  • Promote positive relationships and effective teamwork within the service.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Report immediately to the Director of Nursing (DON) or Person in Charge any infectious illness, accident, incident, or safety concern involving a resident, colleague, yourself, or others.
  • Understand and support the implementation of the service’s Health and Safety policies, emergency procedures, and fire safety requirements.
  • Report any faulty equipment, damaged furniture, unsafe practices, or potential hazards to the DON or relevant department.
  • Promote a culture of safe working practices throughout the service.

General Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all relevant NMBI / An Bord Altranais guidelines, regulations, and professional standards.
  • Maintain all required documentation and records in accordance with regulatory requirements and organisational policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all information obtained during the course of your duties.
  • Notify the DON or Person in Charge as soon as possible if unable to attend work, in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure the security and safety of the service is maintained at all times.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and guidelines within required timescales.
  • Ensure all equipment is clean, safe, and maintained appropriately.
  • Support residents to access community activities, appointments, and opportunities, including driving residents when required (manual driving licence essential).
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties assigned by the Director of Nursing or Person in Charge.
