SAP Engineering Manager
Cork
Description
Apple’s SAP landscape is one of the most sophisticated, high-velocity environments in the world. We don't just run SAP, we push it to its absolute limits to support everything from global Retail to the world’s most complex supply chains.
This role is ideal for someone who is ready to scale their engineering impact through management, or is already started in their management career, and enjoys being close to the technology. You’ll combine people leadership with technical direction, helping shape how SAP solutions are designed, built, and delivered across a large and complex S/4HANA environment.
You won’t be expected to have all the answers on day one. What matters most is curiosity, sound engineering judgement, and the ability to grow people and teams in a thoughtful, structured way.
You will hire, build, and lead your own SAP development team. This includes creating an inclusive, supportive environment where engineers can do their best work, develop their skills, and understand how their work connects to real business outcomes.
You’ll provide day-to-day technical guidance to the team, helping with design decisions, code reviews, and delivery planning. While you won’t be coding full-time, you’ll stay close enough to the work to understand trade-offs and risks.
You’ll be accountable for the team’s output — ensuring work is well-designed, well-tested, and delivered in a predictable way.
This includes working with product owners, architects, and partner teams to turn requirements into practical, high-quality solutions.
Modernisation & Improvement
You’ll help the team adopt modern SAP development approaches over time, balancing new capabilities with existing systems.
Collaboration & Communication
You’ll represent your team clearly and confidently, translating technical topics into plain language for business and functional partners, and bringing context back to the team.
- Experience leading technical teams through mentoring, coaching, or direct line management.
- A solid grasp of SAP development concepts such as ABAP, interfaces, and modern extension approaches, with the ability to review designs and code at a high level.
- Practical experience working in, or alongside, S/4HANA systems. Several years working with SAP systems, particularly ABAP or BTP based solutions, in a production enterprise environment.
- The ability to explain technical topics clearly to non-technical audiences and to align engineers around priorities and goals.
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience hiring or growing a development team.
- Exposure to SAP BTP, Fiori/UI5, or cloud-based development.
- An interest in automation, tooling, or new ways of improving developer productivity such as Gen AI.
- SAP certifications are helpful but not essential.
- Capability to perform hands-on development tasks when necessary.
