Senior Estimator- Data Centre / Battery Facility
Job Purpose:
To manage and lead the tendering process across a variety of construction projects, ensuring cohesive integration of all estimating disciplines to produce competitive and accurate net cost bids. The Senior Estimator also plays a key role in mentoring junior estimators and supporting their professional growth, while contributing to strategic relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
Duties and Responsibilities
Pre-Construction and Tender Management:
- Liaise closely with the Pre-Construction Director on new and existing opportunities.
- Receive, review, and acknowledge all tender documents and amendments.
- Abstract scope into material and subcontract packages and initiate supplier engagement.
- Oversee or directly produce accurate net cost estimates.
- Ensure implementation and adherence to company tendering procedures.
- Manage tender queries and liaise with clients and the design team as needed.
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for design alternatives and value engineering.
Bid Development:
- Cost up preliminaries and ensure risk items are clearly identified.
- Prepare and distribute the Tender Summary Sheet.
- Present tenders at adjudication meetings and contribute to pricing strategies.
- Finalize and submit Forms of Tender and supporting documentation.
- Assist with post-tender negotiations and support contract award activities.
Handover and Project Support:
- Transfer all tender documentation and insights to the delivery team upon award.
- Participate in project handover meetings and design team meetings (for D&B projects).
- Ensure consistent feedback from project delivery teams to inform future tenders.
People and Process Development:
- Coach and support the development of junior estimating staff.
- Maintain and refresh the supply chain in alignment with procurement strategies.
- Proactively engage with clients, specifiers, and partners to improve bid outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications:
- Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field
- Membership or working toward ACIOB / SCSI accreditation
Key Knowledge Areas:
- Cleanroom / Data Centre / Dry Room Construction
- First Principle Estimation
- Construction contracts and documentation
- Modern construction methods, materials, and planning techniques
- Use of estimating software
- Procurement practices and supply chain management
- Understanding of Health & Safety in construction
- Temporary works, project scheduling, and cost planning
- Negotiation and communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of local subcontractor market and pricing levels
