The appointee will be based within Academic Administration at ATU Donegal, Letterkenny Campus. The generic job description for Grade V provides that the appointee may be assigned to work on any of a very wide range of university activities. This may involve cooperation and distance working with colleagues on other campuses and occasional travel.
The work of the Academic Affairs section is reasonably complex and broad in scope, involving activities related to admissions, registration, student records, fees and grants, examination, statistical reporting, etc. The tasks, duties and priorities within the section vary with the various stages of the academic calendar. Thus, the tasks assigned at any point may be subject to change according to the needs of the functional area. The job will inevitably involve access to and processing of significant confidential information. Awareness of data security and protection will be vital.
Appointees at this grade would have a degree of supervisory responsibility and would normally work under the direction of a higher grade or senior officer for a section of the University’s activities. The section would normally have a moderate size staff of two or more levels. The jobholder would be responsible ultimately for most of the decisions taken in the section.
The appointee may be assigned to provide of a range of supportive services, including dealing with student queries, maintenance of student records, assisting with tasks related to registration, fee assessment, debtor follow up, refunds, assisting preparations for exams and conferring, research, collection and collation of statistical and reasonably complex information, the preparation of reports and submissions, both internal and external.
The job will involve regular contacts with students, staff, the public and organizations and individuals at all levels where discretion, tact and courtesy will have to be constantly exercised. The jobholder would be required to take decisions involving the conscious exercise of judgement.
All jobs demand a good knowledge and skill in the use of Information and Communication Technologies and appointees will be expected to use new techniques and technologies as they arise. The University will provide the necessary training as appropriate.
