We have an exciting new opportunity for a Motor Engineer to join our team at AXA Ireland! Reporting to the Motor Service Excellence Manager, you will provide expert support in assessing vehicle damage, ensuring accurate valuations or repairs to the highest standards. You will conduct remote and on-site inspections across the Republic of Ireland, liaising with repair facilities and keeping customers informed throughout the process. Collaboration with engineering teams and repair shops is essential to deliver quality service and seamless operations, whether working independently or as part of a team. In this role, you will work remotely with frequent travel to sites and occasionally to the Dublin office for meetings and training. A company car is included with the role. What you’ll be doing: Finance Accountabilities & Responsibilities Effectively control and reduce repair costs including Audatex estimates accurately detailing the correct repair method and costing. Monitor contractual performance and Service Level Agreements of suppliers within the working area. Provide accurate valuations on total loss vehicles using specialist guides, market values and local knowledge. Negotiate settlement with suppliers and customers. Customer Accountabilities & Responsibilities Deliver excellent customer service by providing inspection reports within specified time frames. Conduct repair quality audits ensuring customer vehicles are repaired to a high standard. Conduct technical investigations and provide detailed reports. Operational Accountabilities & Responsibilities Act as subject matter expert, providing expert evidence in court and/ or at legal consultations. Deliver and maintain technical and safety standards training. Conduct audit inspections and collate/co-ordinate audit data. Prepare quarterly report on market intelligence for Claims Mgmt. Have flexibility within the role to undertake other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer and participate in any designated projects (including cross-functional). Identify and refer potential cases of fraud to Special Investigations Unit (SIU) using red flag indicators and handler intuition to avoid commercial loss through potentially fraudulent claims. People Accountabilities & Responsibilities Work within a team of engineers, total loss specialists and logistics (including salvage) personnel to ensure efficient claims handling and best outcomes. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team. What we’re looking for: Minimum of 5 years’ practical experience gained in a garage workshop / vehicle repair environment is essential. Motor Trade qualifications, City and Guilds/ NVQ Level 3 or equivalent is essential. Deep understanding of motor vehicle construction and repair techniques across bodywork, paint, mechanical, electrical systems, and the ability to use repair estimating systems (such as Audatex), along with knowledge of new and second-hand vehicle values, market trends, and negotiation of repair costs effectively. Engineer qualifications would be beneficial to have. The successful person will be expected to gain this qualification upon commencement of the role and Axa will cover the fees associated. Experience working within a regulated financial services environment, particularly insurance, would be beneficial. Proven ability in customer liaison, negotiation, and managing total loss settlements, with strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of claim regulations, compliance, and legislation, along with relevant certifications and expertise in regulatory frameworks. Awareness of emerging trends in Insurtech, AI, digital service solutions, and financial technology initiatives. Experience with garage management. Exposure to digital transformation initiatives, and automation projects. Familiarity with AXA Group’s procurement and vendor risk frameworks, as well as best practices in risk management would be beneficial. Proven ability to meet service level agreements, deadlines, and work independently to make informed decisions.
