Who We Are

Brothers of Charity Services Ireland offers a variety of residential, day, respite, assessment, and clinical services to individuals with varying degrees of intellectual disability. Many of the people we support have additional needs, including autism, behaviours that challenge, and physical or sensory disabilities.

PERMANENT FULL-TIME ICT SUPPORT ENGINEER

The Role:

The appointee will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of computers and networks so people can use them to accomplish their tasks. The successful candidate must enjoy solving problems in a complex ICT infrastructure and will be proactive with broad technical knowledge and skills. This position will involve working with people whose knowledge about IT ranges from novice to expert. You will be required to provide cover for the ICT Operations Manager during varying pre-notified leave times.

Being able to prioritise the problems that arise is essential. The successful candidate must weigh each problem for its severity and complexity and then resolve problems in the order that keeps the greatest number of people productive. The appointee’s ability to work with others, both technical and non-technical personnel, is key to this job. Change is constant, so the appointee will always be learning something new.

Qualifications/Experience/Skills:

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have:

• A third level IT or related qualification.

• Microsoft Certified Professional certification in current systems is an advantage.

• Other accreditations and relevant experience in Information Technology an advantage.

Experience:

• At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

• Recent experience in a disperse networked environment is essential, ability to setup, configure and maintain WAN communication links over various technologies

• Experience with a wide range of hardware including servers, routers, firewalls, personal computers, laptops and printers are essential.

• Experience with a wide range of operating systems such as Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 Windows 10 and Windows 11 is essential.

• Required experience managing and maintaining a virtual server environment including shared storage and networking.

• Experience in the use of server application software such as Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Exchange Online, Microsoft SQL 2014/2016, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office 365 and Citrix DAAS is essential.

• Ability to work with external suppliers and manage vendor contracts.

• Familiarity with telecommunications equipment such as mobiles and VoIP systems.

• Familiarity with SAN technology, security appliances and Microsoft cloud technologies would be an advantage.

Other skills:

• Ability to work with other technical and non-technical personnel.

• An ITIL qualification is desirable but not essential.

• Must own their own car and possess a full clean driving licence, these are essential requirements of this post

• Creative problem solving and research and analysis skills.

• Good verbal and written communication skills.

• Organisational and prioritising skills and time management skills.

Working Hours:

70 hours a fortnight based on a 5-day working week. However, flexible hours including weekends and evenings may be involved. Starting and finishing times will be notified to and agreed with the appointee from time to time by the ICT Manager.

Annual Leave:

28 days per annum.

Remuneration:

Department of Health Grade V (Clerical) salary scale (01/8/2025) - € 51,718 x 4 increments –

€58,078 (Max) pro rata per annum.

A Long Service Increment (LSI) €59,969 pro rata per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.

A final Long Service Increment (LSI) €61,866 pro rata per annum is payable after a further 3 years.

Tenure:

The post is permanent, full-time and pensionable.

Travel/Base:

The person appointed must provide his/her own car and must furnish an indemnity from Insurers in favour of the employer. Travelling expenses at the appropriate rate will be paid in respect of travel necessarily performed in the discharge of duty.

Position will be based in Kilcornan House, Clarinbridge, Co. Galway

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible both in their approach and their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each individual.

The person appointed should be flexible in their approach and should have the ability to work as a member of a team. He/she will be required, whilst setting a personal example by attitude, conduct, and practice and leadership style to carry out the duties of the post outlined hereafter.
