Role Purpose


  • The P1 Retirement & Investment Consultant is responsible for supporting clients who are within five years of retirement, helping them understand and plan for the key financial decisions they will face as they move through their retirement journey.

  • Financial needs and goals are reviewed, and appropriate recommendations are made to ensure the clients financial wellbeing.  

  • As part of the client’s retirement plan, expert advice is provided on ARFS, Investments, Savings Plans,  Cornmarket Tax Service, Section 72/73 inheritance planning and Life products. This role will  involve effectively dealing with client queries that come in in relation to retirement products.  This will include providing details in relation to existing policies (values, terms & conditions etc) and providing advice and guidance, along with dealing with clients over the age of 75.

  • Due to the specialised nature of advising our retired clients, all Retirement Advice Consultants will receive an extensive training course prior to commencement of the role along with ongoing development within the role.

Accountabilities of the Role

  • Introduce and explain the retirement journey to clients, setting out the typical stages before and after retirement, the decisions they will need to make at each stage

  • Engage with existing AVC clients, answering queries and reviewing their current AVC arrangements to ensure they remain appropriate and aligned with their retirement objectives

  • Conduct financial health checks (FHC) where appropriate, assessing clients overall financial position reviewing existing savings, investments and pensions arrangements

  • Provide clear, personalised and compliant advice, recommending suitable courses of action to help clients achieve their financial retirement goals.

  • Help clients understand complex information and options in a straightforward way.

  • Provide clients with a full financial fact find over Microsoft Teams

  • Provide clients with over the phone reviews of existing holdings

  • Answer client queries in an efficient and compliant manner

  • Identify what is required for our clients to meet their needs and goals

  • Guide our clients throughout their retirement journey

  • Advise on the various options available to the client and implement their revised retirement plan, by recommending the most appropriate course of action for the client

  • Guide the client throughout the process of setting up new investment/life policies

  • Maintain and build strong relationships with key stakeholders

  • Carry out such other duties as may from time to time be required by the Company

  • Comply with risk control and regulatory requirements that are relevant to this role

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory, professional, and legal requirements

  • Maintain commercial awareness relevant to this role in relation to changes in investment/life and pension products and industry specific changes

  • Reach targets set down by the Head of Retirement & Investment

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • Full QFA  

  • Strong analytical thinking, with ability to problem solve

  • Customer focused approach

  • Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team

  • Strong communication skills

  • Knowledge of risk control & regulatory environment.

  • Commercial awareness

  • Experience dealing with elderly clients beneficial

Controlled Function

This role is a ‘controlled function’ as defined by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. Any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that the appointee meets the requirements as set out in the Fitness and Probity standards issued by the Central Bank. This requires the company to complete prescribed due diligence to assess the appointee’s fitness and probity.
