About the Role
Datavant is seeking a technically fluent, execution-oriented Product Manager to own our unstructured data de-identification capabilities within the Privacy Product Area. This role sits on the Privacy Product team. This product detects, redacts, or obfuscates PHI/PII in free text with an opportunity to expand to scanned documents, images. The demand in the market continues to grow for AI-ready unstructured data for downstream analytics use, and this product ensures we do that compliantly.
Unstructured data de-identification means taking messy source content from things like clinical notes, scanned charts, survey responses, free text, and producing de-identified, HIPAA-compliant, analytics-ready output that preserves as much clinical utility as possible. The workflow spans identifier detection (NLP/ML-based), redaction or obfuscation decisioning, sampling-based validation against recall and specificity targets, human-in-the-loop review by Privacy Analysts and Data Scientists, and increasingly, precision/utility scoring on top of the de-identified output for AI and analytics consumers.
You will own product strategy for the core de-identification engine while also expanding revenue-critical commitments: on-prem (cloud) deployment for enterprise clients, client-facing utility metrics, and more. You will partner closely with Engineering, Product privacy R&D and our solutions and go-to-market team.
Success in this role will be measured by improved recall and precision of identifier detection at scale, reduced manual review burden for Privacy Analysts and Data Scientists, progress toward supportable on-prem (cloud) delivery, and scaling of the AI-ready utility layer.
What You'll Do
- Own product strategy and roadmap for unstructured data de-identification, from crawl/walk/run staging to production scale.
- Set and defend product goals: growth, customer adoption, recall, precision, time savings for data science team
- Direct the detection/redaction pipeline with Engineering and Data Science: NLP/ML identifier detection, redaction vs. obfuscation parameters
- Own the AI-ready utility layer roadmap
- Lead on-prem (cloud) strategy: define what crosses the customer boundary, partner with Engineering on architecture, work with Legal on contractual backstops
- Engage with our clients: translate client asks into roadmap-consistent requirements and validate against product strategy
- Act as Agile Product Owner: backlog, requirements, cross-team dependencies, taking ownership on unresolved calls
What You’ll bring
- 5+ years of product management or technical product ownership experience, preferably with data privacy, healthcare data, ML/NLP-driven products, or regulated enterprise software
- Experience owning a complex, technically ambiguous product from strategy through delivery, with a track record of managing competing near-term commercial commitments against a longer-term platform build
- Working understanding of healthcare data privacy concepts: HIPAA Privacy Rule, Expert Determination
- Enough technical fluency to work directly with engineers and data scientists on NLP/ML-based identifier detection, model evaluation. You are not expected to build the models, but you need to be able to push back on the people who d
- Enough technical fluency to support engineering in scoping on-premise (cloud) client-deployments
- Demonstrated ability to make and defend build-vs-partner decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate to any audience from engineering counterparts to sales leadership
- Highly organized and comfortable operating with ambiguity across simultaneous priorities
- Experience delivering enterprise-grade software within Agile product-development teams
- Passion for improving healthcare and for the specific challenge of making sensitive healthcare data safely usable at scale
