The Opportunity
We are now seeking a Head of Finance Business Partnering to join the Finance Office.
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, this newly created Head of Function role will lead the development of EirGrid’s dedicated Finance Business Partnering function and play a pivotal role in shaping how Finance supports strategic decision-making across the organisation.
As Head of Finance Business Partnering, you will create and lead a modern, scalable and high-performing partnering model capable of supporting EirGrid’s continued growth, increasing complexity and significant investment programmes. You will build strong partnerships with Chief Officers, Directorate leadership teams and key stakeholders, ensuring that financial insight, challenge and support are embedded within strategic planning, investment decision-making, operational performance and resource allocation processes.
The successful candidate will ensure that Finance Business Partners are recognised as trusted advisors and constructive challengers, helping leaders make informed decisions, strengthen financial accountability and deliver organisational objectives. This is a unique opportunity to build a new function, influence how Finance partners with the business and contribute to the ongoing evolution of EirGrid’s Finance Operating Model.

The Team
The Finance Office is responsible for the provision of timely and insightful financial information to the Board, Executive and Management. The function plays a critical role in maintaining a strong financial control environment, supporting strategic decision-making, ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory obligations and driving continuous improvement across finance processes, systems and capabilities.

As EirGrid continues to grow in scale, complexity and strategic importance, the Finance function is expanding to support increased investment activity, organisational growth, evolving regulatory requirements and increasing stakeholder expectations. To support this growth, EirGrid is investing in additional capability across its Finance function, creating key leadership roles that will strengthen financial planning, reporting, control, business partnering and performance management activities.

The Head of Finance Business Partnering will be a member of the Finance Leadership Team and will work closely with FP&A, Financial Reporting and Finance Operations to ensure Finance operates as an integrated function that delivers meaningful insight and value across the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop and continuously enhance the Finance Business Partnering function, defining the strategy, operating model, governance framework and capabilities required to support EirGrid’s evolving business needs.
  • Build and inspire a high-performing team of Finance Business Partners, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Build strong partnerships across the organisation, ensuring Finance is embedded within decision-making processes and recognised as a trusted partner in driving business performance and value creation.
  • Partner closely with FP&A and business leaders to support budgeting, forecasting, performance management and long-term financial planning, ensuring resources are aligned to strategic priorities.
  • Ensure Finance Business Partners provide robust challenge, commercial insight and decision support that improves strategic, operational and investment decision-making.
  • Lead Finance’s contribution to major investment decisions, business cases, capital programmes and strategic initiatives, ensuring affordability, strategic alignment and value-for-money outcomes.
  • Promote strong financial accountability across Directorates, helping leaders understand the financial implications of decisions and deliver against agreed plans and budgets.
  • Drive continuous improvement in business partnering frameworks, performance management practices and financial insight capabilities, making effective use of data and analytics to support decision-making.
  • Champion the development of finance systems, reporting capabilities and transformation initiatives to support a modern, scalable Finance function.
  • Contribute as a key member of the Finance Leadership Team, helping to shape Finance strategy, governance, capability development and organisational performance.
About You
Successful candidates will have:
  • A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) together with significant post-qualification experience in senior finance leadership roles.
  • Proven experience leading Finance Business Partnering, Commercial Finance, FP&A or equivalent finance functions within a large, complex and stakeholder-intensive organisation.
  • A strong track record of influencing Executive teams and senior stakeholders, providing independent challenge, strategic insight and decision support on key business and investment decisions.
  • Strong commercial, strategic and analytical capability, with the ability to translate complex financial and operational information into clear recommendations and actionable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success building, leading and developing high-performing teams, while coaching and developing future finance leaders.
  • Experience leading organisational change, finance transformation initiatives or operating model enhancements in complex environments.
  • Strong knowledge of financial governance, performance management, budgeting, forecasting and financial control frameworks.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and influence at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong financial modelling, analytical and problem-solving capability, with experience supporting strategic opportunities, investment decisions and risk evaluation.
  • The ability to operate successfully in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders, competing priorities and significant investment programmes.
