About the role:

The Power Systems Engineer will play a key role within Ethos Engineering’s Data Centre Group, supporting the design and delivery of resilient electrical power infrastructure for mission-critical facilities. The role focuses on power systems analysis and MV/LV distribution design within a building services consultancy environment, working closely with electrical, mechanical, BIM and commissioning teams.

 About you:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering.

  • 1+ years’ experience in electrical or power systems engineering, ideally within a building services or consultancy environment.

  • Experience working on data centre, pharmaceutical, life sciences or other mission-critical facilities is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with European and UK electrical standards (IEC, BS, IS).

  • Strong understanding of electrical power systems within building services and mission-critical environments.

  • Experience delivering power system studies such as:

    • Short circuit calculations (IEC 60909)

    • Load flow analysis (HV / MV / LV)

    • Protection coordination and selectivity studies

    • Arc flash and power quality studies

    • Harmonic and transient analysis

  • Experience with MV and LV system design, including transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS (AC/DC) and emergency power systems.

  • Familiarity with earthing and lightning protection design for complex facilities.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit within a building services design environment.

  • Understanding of data centre power resilience concepts (N, N+1, 2N architectures).

About the job:

  • Act as a power systems specialist within multidisciplinary building services design teams on data centre projects.

  • Undertake electrical power system studies to support data centre design, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash and harmonic analysis.

  • Support the design of MV and LV distribution systems for data centres, including substations, transformers, generators, UPS systems and critical power architectures.

  • Develop and review single line diagrams, power system schematics, protection philosophies and technical reports.

  • Carry out detailed electrical calculations in accordance with IEC, BS, IS and relevant international standards.

  • Interface with utility providers and support grid connection assessments for data centre developments.

  • Review vendor and contractor technical submissions, ensuring alignment with the design intent and performance requirements.

  • Support commissioning activities, including FATs, SATs and system energisation planning where required.

  • Contribute to QA processes, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance and consistency across project deliverables.

  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior electrical engineers within the team.

  • Liaise with clients, contractors and other stakeholders to resolve technical challenges during design and construction.
