Social Care Leader, Under 18's Residential Service, The Haven, Clonmel
Location: Tipperary
Contract: Full Time, Specific Purpose
This role plays a key part in creating a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for young people aged 15-18 who are living in short‑term residential care. You’ll be part of a committed team within Under 18's Residential Services, offering day‑to‑day support, guidance, and encouragement to help each young person feel heard, valued, and supported as they navigate a challenging period in their lives.
What you will do:
Work within the framework of the overall objective of Focus Ireland and the values of the agency.
Provide a safe, home like environment for young people who reside in the unit, in line with the National Standards governing the provision of care in Children’s Residential Centres.
To take the lead on shift with Social Care Workers, and to ensure that the staff team carry out allocated tasks in a competent and professional manner and, barring any mitigating circumstances, ensure these are not passed on to the next person on duty.
To advise the Deputy Social Care Manager or Social Care Manager of any areas of concern in relation to Social Care Workers or of young people.
Assist in the administration and day to day operation of the service.
Co-operate with external monitoring and statutory inspections and implement their recommendations.
To record and maintain records in relation to the project and individual clients in accordance with statutory requirements and health and safety legislation.
To attend and participate in team, review and agency meetings as required.
To assist in the implementation of the settlement policies and strategies of Focus Ireland.
To prepare and engage in supervision sessions on a regular basis with the Manager/ Deputy
To undertake such other duties as might be reasonably assigned to you from time to time in consultation with the Manager.
To observe all Health, Safety and Welfare at Work regulations and notify management of any risks or concerns you may have in relation to same.
To agree to take part in a 7-day, 24 hour roster.
What you will need:
Hold a CORU approved Social Care Worker qualification and have applied for CORU registration (evidence of application will be necessary)
A minimum of 2 years full-time work experience in a children’s residential setting.
A working knowledge of the impact of childhood adversity on adolescents
A working knowledge and awareness of HIQA National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres.
Ability to manage and support teenagers in crisis who present with challenging behaviours.
A high standard of written communication
A working knowledge and understanding of Child Protection, and responses to concerns. (Desirable)
A working knowledge and understanding of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention model. (Desirable)
