Contract: Fixed Term

Reports To: Supervisor/Project Manager

Overview of role:

The Lineworker PICW is responsible for the safe planning, coordination, and execution of electrical network construction, maintenance, and repair works. Acting as the designated Person in Charge of Works (PICW), the role ensures that all activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and applicable legislation. The PICW provides leadership and direction to site crews, manages work permits and safety controls, and serves as the primary point of contact for operational activities on site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assumes responsibility as the designated Person in Charge of Works and PSCS representative.
  • Ensures all works are undertaken in accordance with approved safety rules, procedures, permit systems, and risk assessments.
  • Conducts and/or attends team briefings, toolbox talks and documents pre-start briefings.
  • Manage daily site safety, quality and environmental along with undertaking audits where required.
  • Reports incidents, near misses, hazard and safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • Plans and co-ordinates daily activities to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Supervise Lineworkers, subcontractors and other personnel engaged in network operations.
  • Coordinate outages, switching programs, isolations and reinstatement activities as required.
  • Ensure resources, materials, plant and equipment are available and suitable for the work being undertaken.
  • Liaise with network controllers, clients, supervisors and stakeholders throughout the execution of works. Undertake construction, maintenance, fault response and repair works on overhead and underground electrical networks.
  • Read and interpret drawings, network schematics, construction plans and work instructions.
  • Ensure work is completed to the required quality standards and technical specifications.
  • Carry out inspections and quality checks of completed work.
  • Assist in commissioning and testing activities where required.
  • Complete and maintain all required operational and safety documentation.
  • Ensure permits, authorisations, switching documents and site records are accurately completed.
  • Maintain records relating to work activities, inspections, incidents and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with company and client policies, industry regulations and statutory requirements.

To be considered for the Lineworker PICW position you will Ideally have the following:

  • Qualified Lineworker with relevant industry experience (ESB Networks).
  • Current PICW authorisation
  • Experience working on electrical distribution or transmission networks, with a minimum 5 years’ experience.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety rules, permit systems and network operating procedures.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents, drawings and work instructions.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Full clean driving licence (and trailer), willingness to travel and work away at customer sites.
  • Safe Pass, Manual Handling, Working at Heights, First Aid Qualification, Pole-Top Rescue and MEWP certifications or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally in English, both verbally and in written correspondence.
