Job Summary:
Griffith College is seeking for a strong, hands-on leader to take ownership of day-to-day campus operations and lead our facilities and maintenance teams on the ground.
This is not a desk-based role, but one suited to someone who enjoys being out on site, leading teams face-to-face and resolving problems in real time. The ideal candidate takes pride in ensuring buildings are well run and maintained to a high standard and has a strong understanding of how to promote and maintain a safe working environment for everyone on campus. You will play a key role in ensuring our campus buildings, plant, infrastructure and residential facilities operate safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to students, staff and summer guests.

Job Responsibilities:
Leadership of Facilities & Maintenance Operations
The primary focus of this role is the effective leadership and management of the on-site Facilities teams across campus. The successful candidate will take responsibility for overseeing daily operations, ensuring high standards of performance, safety and service delivery.
- Leading, organising and motivating Facilities Supervisors and maintenance personnel
- Planning and allocating daily and weekly work schedules in line with operational priorities
- Monitoring team performance and maintaining high operational standards
- Providing hands-on assistance where required to support service delivery
- Ensuring all works are carried out safely, efficiently and in compliance with relevant procedures
Building & Plant Operations Oversight
The successful candidate will maintain comprehensive oversight of all core building services and plant operations across the campus. This includes ensuring that critical infrastructure is maintained, compliant and always operating efficiently.
- Heating and ventilation systems
- Electrical distribution systems
- Water services and associated infrastructure
- Plant rooms and essential building infrastructure
- Fire safety and life-safety systems
- Lifts and other statutory compliance systems
Working closely with the Maintenance Supervisor, the role will ensure that planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes are effectively implemented and that reactive maintenance issues are addressed promptly and to a consistently high standard.
Contractor & Site Control Management
The role will act as the primary on-site lead for all external contractors and service providers operating across the campus. The successful candidate will ensure that all contractor activities are properly managed, controlled and delivered in accordance with college standards and statutory requirements.
- Ensuring safe systems of work are implemented and adhered to
- Verifying that appropriate permits, RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and documentation are in place prior to works commencing
- Controlling site access and monitoring contractor activities
- Maintaining quality and performance standards
- Confirming that all works are completed safely, correctly and to specification
Health & Safety Leadership
This position carries significant responsibility for maintaining high standards of operational health and safety across the campus. The successful candidate will play a central role in promoting a proactive safety culture and ensuring full compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Promoting and embedding a strong safety culture within the facilities team
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation and statutory obligations
- Overseeing the preparation and implementation of risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Addressing unsafe behaviours, hazards or non-compliance issues promptly and effectively
- Supporting internal and external audits, inspections and follow-up action
Health & Safety qualifications such are highly desirable and will be viewed very positively. Candidates who can demonstrate formal H&S certification alongside practical experience in safety.
Summer Period Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with Accommodation team to deliver an exceptional guest and resident experience.
- Provide administrative support during peak summer operations, ensuring all reservations and group arrangements run smoothly.
- Ensure all assets and facilities are prepared and ready for guests, maintaining high operational standards throughout the busy summer period.
Person Specification -Essential Experience and Skills
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience leading and supporting teams within facilities management, building services, hotel operations, or a similar hands-on operational environment
- Strong hands-on facilities knowledge of building systems and infrastructure
- A solid working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements
- Excellent organisational, planning and problem-solving skills
- A practical, visible and proactive leadership style
This role is particularly suited to an individual who enjoys working on site, managing teams directly, taking ownership of operational performance in a dynamic environment.

Contract & Working Pattern
- Contract type: Full-time
- Hours of work:5 hours per week
- Working pattern:
- Standard pattern during non-summer periods (e.g. primarily Monday–Friday, subject to operational needs).
- 5-out-of-7-day roster during the GHR summer period, which may include some weekend work, scheduled in advance.
