About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated High Voltage Senior Authorised Person (SAP) with strong operational and maintenance expertise to join our team. This role combines responsibility for HV switching, operational safety, asset maintenance, and technical leadership across data centres, substations, and renewable energy infrastructure.
You will act as the technical authority for HV operations while ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of high-voltage electrical systems and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
High-Voltage Operational Control
Serve as the primary point of contact and senior technical authority for all high-voltage switching operations.
Plan, coordinate, and execute switching operations in full compliance with company procedures and statutory safety rules.
Conduct detailed risk assessments and implement required control measures before and during switching activities.
Review and approve switching schedules, method statements, safety documentation, and switching programmes.
Collaborate with DNOs, clients, and other stakeholders to obtain permits and coordinate planned outages.
Set up, coordinate, and apply safety rules at substations prior to energisation.
Attend site pre-energisation walk-downs with commissioning teams.
Lead or participate in incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective measures.
Monitor, assess, and mentor existing APs/SAPs across the business, ensuring high standards of technical competency and safety compliance.
Maintenance
Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive/predictive maintenance on:
HV switchgear
Transformers
Protection and control systems
HV/LV panels
Diagnose faults, conduct repairs, and deliver rapid responses to breakdowns to minimise system downtime.
Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety rules, electrical standards, and best practices.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, test results, defects, and service reports.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying operational, safety, and process enhancements.
Work within the Asset Management Division to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all HV assets.
Technical Leadership & Compliance
Provide technical guidance and support to operational teams during HV work.
Mentor, train, and develop junior engineers, technicians, and APs on HV systems, switching, and safe work procedures.
Conduct regular equipment condition assessments and internal audits to ensure infrastructure and processes meet regulatory requirements.
Stay updated on industry developments, new technologies, statutory regulations, IEC/BS standards, and HV best practices.
Occasional travel to UK and Europe maybe required.
Key Requirements:
Recognised HV operational training and certification, with Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status or equivalent.
Proven experience planning and carrying out HV switching operations, including issuing and receiving safety documents.
Strong knowledge of HV electrical systems, switching procedures, risk assessment, and control measures.
Experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of HV systems—preferably in data centres, utilities, or renewable energy environments.
Strong understanding of relevant standards such as BS7671, IEC, and associated electrical safety regulations.
Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and protection system documentation.
Full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel.
Skills & Competencies

Strong communication and interpersonal skills for team leadership and stakeholder engagement.
Highly safety-conscious with a deep understanding of HV operational hazards.
Self-motivated, organised, and capable of working independently or within multi-disciplinary teams.
Ability to remain calm, decisive, and effective during critical operations or outages.
