About the Role:
The Junior Estimator is an entry‑level role within the Estimating Team, supporting the preparation of competitive, technically compliant tenders across all sectors we work in. This role forms part of a structured 2‑year development programme, combining hands‑on experience with formal training and a company‑funded Quantity Surveying (QS) qualification. The programme is designed to provide a clear pathway to promotion as an Estimator upon successful completion.
Key Responsibilities:
Quantity Take‑Offs & Measurement
- Carry out accurate quantity take‑offs from drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
- Support the development of Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and pricing schedules aligned with project scopes.
Tender Pricing Support
- Assist in compiling pricing inputs, gathering supplier/subcontractor quotations, and preparing comparison summaries.
- Ensure all cost information is validated, traceable, and incorporated correctly into final submissions.
Documentation & Compliance
- Support the preparation of tender deliverables including assumptions, clarifications, and risk/issue logs.
- Ensure all inputs align with internal tender processes and workflow controls.
Supplier & Subcontractor Engagement
- Issue RFQs, follow up on responses, and maintain accurate quote tracking.
- Assist in developing compliant and competitive subcontractor comparison matrices.
Cross‑Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with Proposal Managers, Estimating Managers, Engineering, QS, and Planning teams to ensure accurate, aligned tender outputs.
- Participate in tender review, progress, and delivery‑check meetings.
Data Management & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain internal rate libraries, supplier databases, and benchmarking information.
- Support ongoing improvement of estimating templates and processes.
Risk & Clarification Support
- Assist in identifying gaps, risks, clarifications, and scope queries that need escalation during the tender process.
Key Requirements:
- Quantity take‑offs and BOQ preparation.
- Tender pricing support and cost validation.
- RFQ issuing, quote tracking, and supplier coordination.
- Strong documentation, compliance, and attention to detail.
- Data management (rates, benchmarking, supplier databases).
- Cross‑functional teamwork with Estimating, QS, Engineering & Planning.
- Risk identification, clarifications, and scope analysis.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.
