About the Role:

The Lifting Coordinator is responsible for the safe planning, organisation, and execution of all lifting operations on site. Acting as the central control point between crane operators, riggers, slinger/signallers, supervisors, and site management, this role ensures all lifts—particularly complex or high‑risk operations—are carried out in full compliance with statutory regulations, industry standards, and approved safe systems of work.

You will lead the coordination of lifting activities, ensure all team members understand the lift plan and their responsibilities, and maintain a strong safety culture through supervision, communication, and proactive intervention.

Key Responsibilities

Lifting Operations Coordination

  • Coordinate and oversee all lifting activities across the project.
  • Act as the primary point of control and communication between crane operators, riggers, slinger/signallers, supervisors, and site management.
  • Ensure all personnel involved in lifting operations clearly understand the lift plan, equipment used, and their assigned roles.
  • Supervise complex, critical, and high‑risk lifting operations to ensure safe execution.

Safety & Compliance

  • Conduct pre‑lift briefings, Toolbox Talks, and safety communications for all lifting activities.
  • Inspect cranes, lifting accessories, and equipment before use to ensure compliance and operational condition.
  • Confirm all lifting accessories have valid certification and are fit for their intended purpose.
  • Stop unsafe work immediately and implement corrective or preventative measures.
  • Lead audits and inspections relating to lifting operations and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Planning & Documentation

  • Develop, review, and approve Lift Plans, Method Statements, and Risk Assessments.
  • Ensure that Lift Plans align with operational requirements, site conditions, and relevant safety legislation.
  • Maintain clear documentation and records of lifting operations, safety checks, and equipment certifications.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with site management, supervisors, and subcontractors to coordinate lifting schedules and avoid operational conflicts.
  • Communicate effectively with all lifting team members to maintain clarity, consistency, and a high standard of safety awareness.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience coordinating lifting activities on construction or industrial sites.
  • Strong understanding of lifting operations, crane types, lifting accessories, and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to develop and review Lift Plans, RAMS, and associated safety documentation.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to brief, instruct, and supervise diverse teams.
  • High level of safety awareness and the confidence to intervene where unsafe conditions exist.
  • Recognised lifting operations or appointed person qualification (e.g., Appointed Person, Lift Supervisor certification).
  • Experience working in high‑risk or complex lift environments (e.g., heavy industry, data centres, utilities).
  • Auditing or inspection experience related to lifting operations.
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Safety‑driven mindset
  • Clear communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and make decisive safety‑critical decisions
  • Collaborative approach with a focus on team alignment and safety leadership
