About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced electrical expert to perform the role as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP). As a SAP, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and execute the organisations switching operations in compliance with industry standards and regulations. The role would involve working with teams in multiple locations and regions on H&MV Engineering sites.
Responsibilities:
· Serve as the primary point of contact and technical authority for high-voltage switching operations.
· Plan, coordinate, and execute switching operations for your team in accordance with established procedures and safety protocols.
· Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and implement appropriate control measures before and during switching operations.
· Collaborate closely with DNOs and other stakeholders to obtain necessary permits and coordinate planned outages for maintenance activities.
· Provide technical guidance and support to the operational team during switching operations, ensuring compliance with safe working practices.
· Review and approve switching schedules, method statements, and switching programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
· Conduct regular inspections and audits to assess the condition and performance of electrical equipment and infrastructure.
· Attend site pre-energisation walk downs with commissioning staff
· Set up, co-ordinate and apply safety rules to substations prior to energisation
· Stay up-to-date with industry advancements, best practices, and regulatory changes related to high-voltage switching operations.
· Participate in incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
· Mentor and train junior staff members on high-voltage switching operations and safety procedures.
· Monitor and assess current AP’s/ SAPs throughout the business
Required Skills and Qualifications:
· In-depth knowledge of the procedures, standards, and safety requirements associated with high-voltage switching.
· Proven track record in planning and executing switching operations, including issuing and receiving safety documents.
· Excellent understanding of electrical systems, equipment, and components, particularly in a high-voltage environment.
· Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively assess risks and make informed judgments.
· Exceptional leadership and communication skills to liaise with DNOs, team members, and stakeholders.
· Ability to work under pressure and respond calmly and decisively in emergency situations.
· Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· A valid Senior Authorised Person (SAP) certification for high-voltage switching operations, as recognized by an accredited organization or governing body.
· Preferred Additional Qualifications:
· Experience with multiple DNOs and a broad range of switching operations.
· Training or qualifications in electrical engineering or a related field.
· Familiarity with DNO-specific safety rules and procedures.
· Knowledge of DNO interface requirements and coordination processes.
· Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
