The successful candidate will be required to participate in the Consultant Surgeon on-call rota at Regional Hospital Mullingar and to provide appropriate cross cover for absent colleagues in line with any policy that may be agreed by the consultant surgeons.
They should be available to respond readily to clinical or service needs at RHM and this will require the successful candidate to reside convenient to the hospital and have access to transport. The successful candidate may also be required to attend meetings or services in the outlying areas for which they will need to have access to transport.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a collegial manner with their fellow consultants and other colleagues and to show flexibility to adapt to changing situations to facilitate continuity of patient care.
The successful candidate’s clinical experience and skillset must include treating the paediatric population in the field of general surgery. Specific training and experience in the treatment of specialised paediatric surgical conditions including paediatric groin surgery is not necessary but would be considered an added benefit as there is significant scope to develop such a service in view of anticipated future retirements.
