About the IRC

Huawei Ireland Research Centre's (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognized technology leader and global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. We are building an industry-recognized multi-disciplinary Research Centre of experts focusing on medium-term to long-term issues to achieve this. The IRC will work closely with an open, innovative ecosystem with Huawei customers to address real-world issues. The IRC will also engage with key European universities to build a basic research capability to support Huawei technical projects.

About the Role

Huawei Ireland Research Centre is expanding an LLM research team that will focus on research and developing AI algorithms for cutting-edge advancements in LLM and Agents, with a focus on domain-specific foundation models, multi agent and web agent systems tailored to Huawei Consumer Cloud services. Key application areas include smart health, data, infrastructure and advertising operations, etc.

The Ireland-based research team will work closely with the Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) in the Headquarters, CBG covers smartphones, PC and tablets, wearables, mobile broadband device, family device and device cloud service, and is the second largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Huawei Consumer BG is dedicated to delivering the latest technologies to consumers and sharing the happiness of technological advances with more people around the world. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize high-performance time series foundation models tailored for diverse downstream business applications.

• Independently drive the full research and development lifecycle, from conceptualization and prototyping to production deployment.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including partnering with teams in China, to implement new features and improve backend system efficiency and scalability.

• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code designed for maintainability at scale.

• Debug and optimize model performance in both development and high-concurrency production environments.

• Stay current with SOTA research and integrate cutting-edge techniques into core products.

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, or a related quantitative field.

• 3+ years of experience in large-scale model/algorithm development, with deep proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and distributed training on GPU/NPU clusters.

• Proven track record in developing Foundation Models (LLMs or Time Series).

• Demonstrated ability to take a project from the research phase to a stable production release independently.

• Strong analytical skills to navigate and resolve complex, ambiguous technical challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing and training large-scale models (1B - 10B parameters).

• Specialized experience in State Space Models (SSMs).

• Domain knowledge in Healthcare or Sports Science analytics.

• A strong research profile with publications in top-tier conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.) or significant contributions to open-source AI projects.

• Mandarin language proficiency is preferred.
