Post 1096 Medical Scientist PCR
Part Time –Permanent
National Blood Centre, Dublin
The IBTS is currently recruiting a part-time, permanent, Medical Scientist based in the PCR Department, National Blood Centre.
The role of Medical Scientist (MS) requires participation in a highly skilled team in a multidisciplinary screening laboratory. Full training will be provided for all appropriate methodologies applied in the NAT laboratory. The NAT laboratory, as part of the National Donor Screening Laboratory (NDSL), plays an integral part in ensuring the quality of the blood and blood products issued to patients in Irish hospitals and providing a number of specialist services to hospitals throughout the country.
The MS will facilitate the screening of donor samples to meet strict deadlines to ensure a safe and efficient blood supply. They will also participate in the future development of the NDSL and the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and test systems. The IBTS is fully committed to on-going learning and research as well as professional and personal development.
Essential Criteria:
Education
• Candidates must possess a recognised primary degree in the field of Medical Laboratory Science
• Candidates must be registered as a medical scientist with CORU**.**
Experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating an ability to work in a team environment.
• Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to deduce and make rational decisions.
• The appointee must demonstrate knowledge and experience working in a GMP/GLP environment.
• Must demonstrate flexibility to work in a demand driven environment, enthusiasm, adaptability and a willingness to co-operate
Desirable Criteria:
• Experience working in a testing laboratory using high throughput automates.
• Experience working with nucleic acid molecular techniques, NAT.
• Demonstrated computer skills including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
The salary scale attached to the post is the Medical Scientist scale €45,279 to €75,148 (incl. LSI) pro rata per annum. Entry point onto the salary scale is dependent upon relevant experience.

Eligible candidates must be:
a) A citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA) – EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway
b) A citizen of United Kingdom (UK)
c) A citizen of Switzerland in regards to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the movement of people
d) A non-EEA citizen who has a stamp 4 visa
e) A person awarded international protection under the International Protection Act 2015, or any family member entitled to remain in the State as a result of family reunification and has a stamp 4 visa
or
f) A non-EEA citizen who is a parent of a dependant child who is a citizen of and resident in an EEA member state if the UK or Switzerland and has a stamp 4 visa.
