At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

Ireland’s water sector is undergoing a major transformation. Unprecedented investment and technological innovation are creating a once-in-a-generation opportunity to redefine water and wastewater infrastructure.

At Jacobs, we’re proud to be at the forefront of this transformation—partnering with Uisce Éireann (Irish Water), Northern Ireland Water, and the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) to deliver critical water and wastewater services, flood management solutions, and environmental protection projects. These initiatives make a real difference to communities across Ireland.

We’ve secured multiple long-term frameworks and programmes, giving our teams the chance to work on projects that span the entire lifecycle—from strategic planning and feasibility studies to detailed design, construction, and commissioning.

We’re looking for Mechanical Engineers at all levels—from ambitious early-career professionals to experienced leaders—to join our teams across Ireland. Whether you’re starting out or ready to take on a senior role, you’ll work on detailed design and Design & Build projects for water, wastewater, and bioresources infrastructure.

You’ll design and deliver mechanical systems for pumping stations, treatment plants, and associated assets, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards. Depending on your experience, you’ll contribute to or lead engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle—collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and clients to achieve outstanding results.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver Mechanical Design Excellence: Design water and wastewater systems, including pumping stations, treatment plants, and associated infrastructure, from concept through completion.
  • Innovate & Add Value: Participate in value engineering and buildability workshops, delivering sustainable and innovative design solutions.
  • Project Lifecycle Involvement: Develop feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, and provide construction and commissioning support.
  • Technical Documentation: Produce design layouts, technical specifications, datasheets, and P&IDs for mechanical systems.
  • Equipment Selection: Specify mechanical equipment such as pumps, blowers, screens, valves, chemical dosing plant, and odour control systems.
  • Site Engagement: Conduct site surveys and investigations, liaising with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure designs meet Irish and UK water industry standards, health & safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Team Development: Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building a strong, collaborative team culture.
  • Collaborative Delivery: Work closely with civil, electrical, and process engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Project Management: Support or lead design management, scheduling, risk management, and financial forecasting.

Here's what you'll need
  • Working toward or holding chartered status (e.g., IMechE or Engineers Ireland).
  • Experience ranging from developing core mechanical engineering skills to 12+ years in detailed design and Design & Build execution for water, wastewater, and bioresources projects.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, project lifecycle management, and mechanical equipment used in water/wastewater treatment.
  • Familiarity with Irish water sector regulations, health & safety, and environmental standards.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organisational skills; leadership experience for senior roles.
  • Robust understanding of health, safety, and welfare legislation.
  • Experience with design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM) is advantageous.
