About the Opportunity
The Jacobs Cities & Places team works across a wide range of scales, from regional and city planning to neighbourhoods, streets and individual buildings, using an integrated design approach. Our aim is to bring planning, design and delivery together in a way that is practical, coordinated and responsive to the needs of clients and communities.
Our business unit brings together engineers, architects, surveyors, urban designers, project managers and transport planners. By working collaboratively across disciplines, we deliver clear, considered and implementable design solutions for clients in Ireland, the UK and internationally.
We are seeking an experienced professional to join our Active Travel & Urban Transport team, working on a hybrid basis from our Dublin office and client locations. The role will suit someone with experience in sustainable transport, placemaking or road space re‑allocation projects, who is comfortable operating within multi‑disciplinary teams across different geographies.
Your Role Will Include
- Leading the technical development and delivery of traffic engineering and active travel projects
- Producing and reviewing high‑quality designs, drawings, reports and tender documentation
- Applying Irish design standards and guidance to develop practical, context‑led solutions
- Supporting project and client management, including programme, resources, quality and commercial performance
- Engaging effectively with clients, local authorities and stakeholders
- Checking and reviewing deliverables, ensuring design consistency and technical assurance
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members and contributing to a collaborative team culture
- Supporting business development activities, bid preparation and client engagement
- Degree‑qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or transport‑related discipline
- Chartered Engineer status or an equivalent professional qualification (e.g. Engineers Ireland, CIHT, CEng, TPP)
- Strong technical background in traffic engineering, including:
- Junction and road link analysis and modelling
- Traffic signals design
- Road markings and traffic sign design
- Pavement, drainage and utilities design
- Preparation of tender documents and works specifications
- Experience in urban streets, active travel, bus priority, public transport and/or public realm schemes
- In‑depth knowledge of key Irish standards and frameworks, including DMURS, Cycle Design Manual, Capital Works Management Framework, Transport Appraisal Framework and NTA Project Approval Guidelines, together with knowledge of relevant TII standards and sustainable transport policy
- Proven experience delivering projects through all design stages, from concept to detailed design and delivery support, including site supervision
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex issues to a range of audiences
- Experience in project and client management, including programme, resourcing, commercial performance and quality control
- Ability to manage workload effectively while mentoring junior staff and contributing to team development
- Experience contributing to bids, client engagement and awareness of emerging trends and best practice
- A clear commitment to knowledge sharing, staff development and technical leadership
