WE ARE CURRENTLY RECRUITING FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITION

Post: Cook

Contract: Specified Purpose, Part-Time (14 hours per week) Maternity Leave Cover

Location: Tearmann Lodge, Rathmore

Roster: Week 1: Sat, Sun, Thurs and Fri: 10:00 am–2:00 pm

Week 2: Mon, Tues and Wed: 10:00 am–2:00 pm

The Cook is an integral part of the on-duty team and flexibility is essential for the role as priorities and duties can change to meet the needs of residents. As a key team player, they will be responsible for the delivery of well balanced and nourishing meals and snacks to all residents and for ensuring the efficient operation of his/her function within a set budget.

The Role:

  • Responsible for the provision of good quality, home cooked food at all times.
  • Ensure that meals are prepared at the agreed times and at correct temperatures.
  • Responsible for the ordering of all ingredients in quantities, which are economically sound.
  • Ensure that food is stored appropriately at all times.
  • Maintain a high level of service and hygiene within the kitchen
  • Ensure that the kitchen area, stores and dining room are maintained in a clean condition at all times.
  • Compile seasonal menus, giving consideration to special diets, likes and dislikes of residents with the approval of the centre manager.
  • Supervise and instruct staff as necessary in the preparation of food and on safety within the kitchen.
  • Observe good health and safety practices at all times, thus ensuring the safety of residents, staff and members of the public.
  • Understand and follow the regulations required by the Environmental Health Department when preparing food.
  • Responsible for the daily management and supervision of the kitchen.

Essential Criteria

  • Be able to carry out the duties of the post satisfactorily.
  • Have a good working knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, including Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, and HACCP.
  • Hold valid HACCP certification.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing a high quality service.
  • Have the ability to work effectively as part of a team and build positive working relationships.
  • Applicants should have the necessary authorisation to work in Ireland and will be asked to provide supporting documentation during the recruitment process.

Highly desirble criteria

  • A recognised qualification in Professional Cookery, Culinary Arts, Catering, Food Production or a related area.
  • Previous experience in a Cook, Chef, Catering Assistant or similar food preparation role.
  • Experience preparing meals for people with specific dietary requirements, including modified diets, allergies and special dietary needs.
  • Experience working in a healthcare, disability, residential or community setting.
  • Experience in menu planning, portion control and preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals.
  • A good understanding of dignity, choice and individual preferences when providing meals to people using disability services.
  • Hold a full driver’s licence, have proven driving experience, and be willing to drive Association vehicles. Regarding use of own vehicle for work purposes, applicants must ensure it is roadworthy and covered by valid business insurance (or be willing to obtain business use insurance).
