What can you expect?
Mercer Marsh Benefits (MMB) is a leading global consultancy that specializes in employee benefits, workplace wellness, and health insurance. MMB is seeking to appoint a hands-on, full-stack Lead AI Engineer to deliver a strategically key AI-first software product.
The Lead AI Engineer is a senior role combining solution architecture and engineering. The role designs and delivers high‑quality features using AI and enables teams to use AI tooling effectively and responsibly. The Lead AI Engineer provides architectural leadership, oversees design quality, and builds production-ready solutions, balancing strategic thinking with AI enabled hands-on delivery.
We will count on you to:
- Design end-to-end solutions aligned with business goals, architectural standards, security and reliability requirements, and operational needs.
- Build and deliver business value, using AI-enabled tools to improve speed, quality, and consistency.
- Guide and support teams adopting AI-assisted delivery approaches, providing practical patterns and guardrails.
- Lead small, cross-functional delivery teams, set technical direction, and mentor senior engineers.
- Make sound technical decisions in complex or ambiguous environments, identifying trade-offs and improvement opportunities.
- Own cross‑functional coordination across dev, product, business, security, data and platform teams.
What you need to have:
- Senior experience in solution architecture and hands-on engineering roles for key software applications, particularly SaaS.
- Strong experience of AI-first applications and agentic technologies.
- Strong proficiency with AI-enabled development and productivity tools.
- Practical experience embedding AI/LLMs into the SDLC (prompt engineering, LLM‑assisted development, automated model tests and model CI/CD).
- Proven ability to design and deliver complex solutions end to end.
- Demonstrated leadership of small engineering teams.
- Strong communication, influence, and decision-making skills.
- Experience deploying and operating containerized workloads on Kubernetes.
- Comfortable with full‑stack development: modern front-end (React + TypeScript or equivalent), back-end services (Python).
- Experience mentoring engineers and presenting outcomes to senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of relational databases (Postgres), key‑value/NoSQL (Mongo), ETL basics and schema management.
What makes you stand out:
- Your problem solving and critical thinking skills: you can simplify complexity, and bring creative, elegant solutions to solve complex challenges.
- You can ‘talk business’. You don’t need to be an insurance expert, but you can collaborate effectively with non-technical colleagues and rapidly relate business opportunities to the technology that will deliver them.
- Your experience delivering large-scale, complex, business-critical, globally deployed software products.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working in a distributed environment, with an ability to form great working relationships across teams, locations, and time zones.
Why join our team:
- We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
- We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can collaborate with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
- Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities.
Note this role is based in the Marsh Innovation Centre in Dublin, and the successful candidate is expected to be in the office 3 days per week.
Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other less represented groups tend to only apply when they check every box. So, if you think you have what it takes, but don't necessarily meet every single point on what is needed, please still get in touch.
