CATEGORY BUYER | PHARMACY | RETAIL | DUBLIN
Location: Dublin (Hybrid)
Reports to: Head of Buying
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Role Overview
Reporting to the Head of Buying, the Category Buyer will be responsible for the development and performance of sales, margin, and commercial income across assigned product categories within Retail and E-commerce.
The role centres around three core objectives:
- Supplier & Commercial Management
- Product & Range Strategy
- Pricing & Promotional Execution
You will play a key role in driving category growth across our pharmacy network and online platform by combining strong supplier relationships with data-led commercial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier & Commercial Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, wholesalers, and brand partners
- Negotiate trading terms, rebates, joint business plans (JBPs), and promotional support
- Deliver agreed commercial income and margin targets
- Plan seasonal activity and supplier-funded campaigns
Product Selection & Range Management
- Develop and maintain compelling product ranges that offer choice, value, and innovation
- Analyse sales performance, stock levels, and market trends to optimise assortment
- Identify new product opportunities and manage product lifecycle from launch to exit
- Ensure stock availability while protecting working capital and stock turns
Pricing & Promotions
- Develop and implement pricing strategies aligned to commercial objectives
- Create and execute promotional plans across stores and online
- Evaluate promotional ROI and take corrective action where required
- Maintain accurate price file management and promotional set-up
Performance & Collaboration
- Monitor weekly category performance and proactively address risks and opportunities
- Work closely with Retail, Marketing, and E-commerce teams to ensure strong in-store and online execution
- Support consistent category standards across all locations
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience in category buying or commercial retail (B2C)
- Strong commercial acumen with a clear understanding of margin and rebate mechanics
- Experience in supplier negotiation and managing trading relationships
- High level of proficiency in Excel and price file management
- Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Results-oriented and motivated by performance targets
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in pharmacy, healthcare, beauty, or FMCG retail an advantage but not essential
