Main Objective:
The principal objective of the post is to participate in the development, direction, teaching, facilitation of the National Intern Training Programme.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Contributing to the clinical teaching of the Intern Training Programme.
Engage with the ongoing Review of the Intern Year and Curriculum Development
Contributing to the assessment of Interns at ward level; including development, delivery and evaluation of these activities and the supervision of Interns who may need remediation.
Liaising with heads of department, project leaders for clinical competence and other relevant faculty members in planning, delivering and evaluating teaching programmes
Providing resources and communication with Intern groups via the RCSI virtual learning environment
Delivering the curriculum at a number of sites e.g. Assigned Hospitals, RCSI Campus St Stephens Green
Conducting Research and Quality Improvement in Education in regard to Intern Induction, Preparedness for Practice, Simulation and Procedural Competence
Ensuring that all Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland policies and procedures are adhered to.
Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety
Representing the best interests of the Department/RCSI at all times
Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time.
Person Specification The successful candidate should have completed at least 1 year of clinical experience post internship
and
not commenced on a Specialist Registrar Programme
and
possess and demonstrate the following:
• Evidence of registration with Irish Medical Council
• Previous experience using E-learning/VLE systems would be an advantage.
• Previous experience of teaching and assessing students in an academic environment is desirable
• Previous experience in research is desirable
• A keen interest in lecturing and interacting with students
• Excellent communication skills

Additional Requirements
Please note that successful candidates will be required to complete:
• Occupational Health Clearance
• Garda Vetting
• Police Clearance (if in residence outside of Ireland for periods of 6 months or more at any stage)
Garda Vetting and Occ Health checks will be conducted by RCSI and partners but Police Clearance certification from countries outside of Ireland will be the responsibility of the successful candidate.
