Job Title: Physiotherapy Practice Tutor
Reporting To: Head of RCSI School of Physiotherapy or nominee
Location: Children’s Health Ireland. The tutor will be based in the clinical site as determined by educational / service requirements. Post may be intermittently in Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) as determined by educational / service needs.

Contract type/duration: Part-time (0.5FTE), fixed term contract for 4 years.

Objective of this post:
The principal objective of the post is to participate in the development, teaching and examining of the physiotherapy practice education programme.
RCSI is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced candidate for a Practice Education post in Physiotherapy. The post- holder will be based in the clinical site as determined by educational / service requirements. The post-holder may be intermittently required in the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) as determined by educational / service needs.
Specifically the Duties & Responsibilities of this post will include:
Participate in the clinical supervision of students. Supporting students’ progress during practice placement, at individual and group levels, including the provision of small-group tutorials, remote support and in person.
Ensure that Practice Educators have necessary skills and competencies, information packs, assessment tools, curriculum information etc. required for each HEI.
Work with students during their placements e.g. orientation, co-ordination of clinical & non clinical learning opportunities.
Provide advice, support and assistance to the Practice Educator in the assessment of student performance in collaboration with relevant university staff where indicated
Participate in the assessment of student performance in collaboration with Practice Educator(s), Practice Education Co-ordinator(s) and relevant university
To provide tutorial support and facilitate shared learning experiences for students while on practice education placements.
Contribute to the teaching of specific practice education modules for students at the university prior to their commencement of practice education.
Contribute to the development and promotion of multi-professional working in the delivery of patient care for the benefit of patients.
Ensure student learning contracts/placement objectives are agreed at the start of each placement, in conjunction with the Practice Educator(s).
Contribute to ongoing feedback to students about their performance, in conjunction with the Practice Educator(s).
Contribute to and attend practice education workshops and training days and any relevant committees organised by the university.
Promote inter-professional learning across disciplines in the health care setting.
Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety, Ensuring that all Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland policies and procedures are adhered to.
Undergo programmes of training and development as may be required.
Representing the best interests of the School of Physiotherapy/RCSI at all times
Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time.
Facilitate effective communication and working relationships between clinicians, therapists and university staff in service delivery.
Implement the university policy on Fitness to Practice.
Contribute to the development of research ideas and the conduct of relevant clinical and/or educational research.

Person Specification Essential:
Possess the B.Sc. (Hons.) degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy or qualification in physiotherapy at least equivalent to the above
Have a number of years satisfactory post qualification experience
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students, patients, and multidisciplinary teams.
Registered with CORU
Sufficient clinical competence and experience across the three main paediatric physiotherapy clinical streams – Paediatric Respiratory, Paediatric MSK / Orthopaedics, an Paediatric Neurology / Neurodevelopmental Physiotherapy – to discharge the duties of the job
Previous experience as a Clinical Educator of undergraduate physiotherapy students
Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in the area of paediatrics

Person Specification Desirable:
Previous experience of teaching and assessing students is desirable
Previous experience of participation in a respiratory weekend and on-call service

High level of IT literacy, verbal & written communication skills, interpersonal communication skills
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Ability to work flexibly as part of a small team but equally capable of working work autonomously when required
