About Our Research
RCSI recognises that excellence in research is critical to the quality of its educational activities, its credibility, and, overall, to its mission to enhance human health. RCSI’s research strategy aims to build upon its strength in translational biomedical and clinical research to deliver transformational, high impact changes in health care. Targeting both Irish national and EU funding, along with increased collaboration with industry, is a major part of the RCSI research strategy. Forging increased collaboration between RCSI PIs and industry is of critical importance to achieving success in this area. RCSI is also committed to provide its researchers with the supports and developmental opportunities to enable them to continuously grow and support their overall career development.
Specifically, the duties of the post are:
§ Design, planning and completion of laboratory work within the scope of the project related to the investigation of mechanisms of disease in multiple myeloma
§ Co-ordination of national projects on a laboratory basis including receipt and processing of complex biological samples, record keeping and communication with national teams.
§ Management and leadership of ethics applications for human cancer research and GDPR compliance
§ Conduction of basic functional research in multiple myeloma
§ NGS, RNA seq, gene expression profiling and other forms of sequencing in multiple myeloma – both in house and through engagement with industry partners and collaborators
§ Leadership of a research team working on a large co-ordinated project within a blood cancer research laboratory – including supervision of summer students, undergraduates and PhD students
§ Presentation of accurate and high-quality data and research at national and international conferences
§ Publication of peer reviewed data in original journal article and review formats
§ Writing of grants for international and national funding agencies in multiple myeloma
§ Troubleshooting, leadership and work contingency planning on the project with the aim of generating novel data
§ Written/verbal/visual reporting on the project to the PI on a regular basis and presentation at laboratory meetings
§ Reporting to funding agencies/industry partners at intervals and regular communication with same as needed.
Qualifications:
§ Undergraduate degree – in science field essential
§ PhD in multiple myeloma
Knowledge & Experience

Essential):
§ The successful candidate must have completed their PhD and related work by September 2026
§ Laboratory experience in tissue culture, RNA, DNA and basic bench research techniques is
essential
§ Experience in management and leadership of national projects in laboratory science
§ Experience in project leadership and management along with strong communication skills is
essential
