About Our Research
RCSI recognises that excellence in research is critical to the quality of its educational activities, its credibility, and, overall, to its mission to enhance human health. RCSI’s research strategy aims to build upon its strength in translational biomedical and clinical research to deliver transformational, high impact changes in health care. Targeting both Irish national and EU funding, along with increased collaboration with industry, is a major part of the RCSI research strategy. Forging increased collaboration between RCSI PIs and industry is of critical importance to achieving success in this area. About the Faculty
The Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery is a dynamic, interdisciplinary, research-oriented environment, with over 20 staff members, including administrative, Faculty and research staff. It currently has over 10 active research grants, including the NIHR funded Weather project in collaboration with four international universities, the UKRI Net Zero hub project, along with coordination and hosting of 12 PhD projects.
Summary of Post
The objective of this post is to contribute research expertise, especially in the area of mental health, to lead in the writing of rapid and scoping reviews on this theme. The successful candidate will require a strong background in mental health research and knowledge of writing scoping reviews, searching published and grey literature, and using established guidelines including PICO/SPIDER frameworks, PRISMA reporting guidelines and JBI checklists for critical appraisals.
Specifically, the duties of the post are:
Conduct individual and/or collaborative research to the highest ethical standards on a variety of settings.
Literature review (Rapid Review or scoping review methods), produce analysis of literature and evidence summaries.
Carry out any administrative and management work associated with your programme of research.
Substantially contribute to the identification of external funding sources, the preparation of grant proposals and the assessment of research findings for potential commercial exploitation.
Co-authorship of academic publications, conference presentations, dissemination to the public and compliance with open access requirements.
Complying with statutory legislation, RCSI and department rules and requirements in staff welfare and safety.
Representing the best interests of the Faculty and wider RCSI at all times.
Engage in appropriate professional training and development opportunities.
Performing such other duties as may be requested from time to time.
Qualifications – (Essential):
PhD in a health or related discipline (e.g., public health, health services, nursing, psychology, social sciences, sociology, nutrition, allied health, social work, social care), with a background in mental health research preferrable.
Knowledge & Experience
– (
Essential):
Demonstrate a knowledge of mental health research as well as research areas including home care, palliative care, and human rights for patients.
Have an internationally competitive research record, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in journals of high impact and quality.
Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the policy, practices and procedures that are relevant to this role, including knowledge of research ethics and government mental health and human rights policies.
Demonstrate an understanding of the operational and management requirements of a successful research project.
Excellent time management skills and can work to deadlines.
A high level of proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential for this role.
