About the project
We have identified a novel role for this protein in obesity and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). Our primary work packages focus on assessing its therapeutic potential using diet‑induced obesity (DIO) models and ex vivo analysis.
Specifically, the duties of the post are:
Assist post doctorate researcher in diet induced obesity models and in vivo diet-induced obesity models, including ex vivo analysis
Carry out research in the cell and molecular biology area. Key techniques will involve, tissue culture, transfection and molecular biology techniques (qPCR, western blot, ELISA) and histology. The applicant will ideally have a personal/individual animal license.
Present regular progress reports to members of the research group or to external audiences to disseminate and publicise research findings.
Prepare, in consultation with supervisors, material for publication in national and international journals and presentations at international conferences.
Carry out routine administrative tasks associated with the research project/s to ensure those project/s are completed on time and within budget. These might include organisation of project meetings and documentation, financial control, risk assessment of research activities and writing standard operating procedures.
Qualifications
A BSc, Master’s or PhD degree in relevant discipline
Knowledge & Experience – (Essential):
Recent relevant experience in cell and molecular biological techniques
Demonstrable intellectual ability and self-starter attitude
Ability to assess and organise resources
Independent and pro active
Interest in translational science and entrepreneurship
Knowledge & Experience – (Desirable)
:
Tissue culture experience
Histology experience
Sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
In vivo experience, especially diet induced obesity models
Experience of nucleic acid based therapeutics
