A senior member of SETU sits on the Carlow Local Community Safety Partnership (CLCSP) Committee and members of the CLCSP sit on the SETU Ending Sexual Violence – Prevention and Support (ESP) Committee who lead the development and implementation of national/SETU Policies for Preventing and Responding to Sexual Violence and Harassment and tackle community safety issues.
The Carlow Local Community Safety Partnership (CLCSP), hosted by Carlow County Council and supported by the Department of Justice, brings together statutory services, the voluntary and community sector, local councillors, and community members to collaboratively identify and address community safety issues across Carlow town and county. As a publicly funded initiative, the CLCSP operates under the same financial regulations, procurement standards, and auditing requirements as other Department of Justice-supported projects, ensuring transparent and accountable management while fostering strong partnerships to enhance local safety.
The Bystander Intervention project is being funded by the Department of Justice, Community Safety Innovation Fund and takes a collaborative approach to tackling Sexual Violence and Harassment (SVH) involving educational, statutory and community stakeholders throughout Carlow town and county. This collaborative initiative between SETU and Carlow County Council aims to raise awareness, educate and create a safe, respectful, positive and supportive culture in the community. This project aims to equip students with the knowledge and tools to safely intervene in instances of harmful or violent words, actions or behaviours; and/or alternatively to report these behaviours and issues to the appropriate channels. To support students and community members to recognise unacceptable behaviour, this project will address key issues of unacceptable and harmful behaviour whilst empowering students and community members to make safe and effective interventions and foster a culture of accountability and respect.
