Early Educator - Preschool (Ref SC30926)
Duration of Post: Permanent
Location: Primarily based in Palmerstown.
Reporting Relationship: Designated Person in Charge and/or person designated by them.
Job Purpose
The overall role and responsibility of the Early Educator in the Preschool is to provide support to Children with a Global Developmental Delay and their families through education plans and play, to assist the child in achieving their full potential. This person will work as part of a dedicated team to provide high-quality, safe, nurturing, and inclusive care and education to children with Intellectual Disabilities and additional support needs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Report to the Person-in-Charge of Preschool and take a lead role planning, implementation and evaluation of high-quality early childhood education and care programmes for all children attending Preschool and their families
Adhere to all Stewarts Care policies, Tusla regulations, Department of Children policies, relevant legislation and national and international best practice standards relating to early years education, safeguarding and disability services.
Take responsibility in the observation, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of developmentally appropriate programmes that meet the child’s needs, strengths and interests of children with Intellectual Disabilities and additional needs. This may include supporting children in palliative care.
Develop, implement, monitor and review personal support plans and associated goals in collaboration with families, multidisciplinary teams and relevant professionals in line with Aistear and Siolta guidance.
Complete, review and maintain risk assessments and incident reports for individual children, activities, environments and outings, ensuring that the appropriate control measures and support strategies are in place and reviewed.
Promote children’s dignity, privacy, choice, independence and inclusion.
Act as a key worker for designated children.
Support Early support workers and students modelling.
Receive reports, report back on observations and provide written reports as required. Appreciate the importance of legal aspects and be able to write a statement concerning any accident or incident which occurs to a child, staff member, customer or visitor.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential Criteria:
Minimum QQI Level 8
Meet minimum DCYA (Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth) Early years recognised Qualifications
Strong desire to work with Children with Intellectual Disability
The aptitude to provide a child and family centred approach to Education, Learning and Care
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal
Excellent knowledge of Tusla Early Years inspectorate - Quality and Regulatory Framework
Experience of working with children in an early-years, disability, education or care setting
Excellent IT skills
Delivery of the Aistear programme
Desirable:
Experience of working with Children with an Intellectual Disability
Experience of Tusla registration and Aistear
Experience of working with Children with Autism

Terms and Conditions of Employment
Remuneration | Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health consolidated pay scales. Salary will be paid on a pro-rata basis. Current Salary Scale: Play Therapist €45,514- €65,058 per annum. Salaries and increments are paid in accordance with DOH salary scales and on a pro-rata basis |
Working week | The hours allocated to this post are 27.5 hours per week, exclusive of lunch breaks. The allocation of these hours will be at the discretion of the line manager in accordance with the needs of the service. The successful applicant must have a flexible approach to the hours of work, depending on the needs of the service. This role is responsible for leading crisis/emergency response to non-care issues. |
Pension | This is a pensionable position. The successful candidate upon appointment will be become a member of the appropriate pension scheme. This will be detailed in the contract of employment. |
Probation | All employees will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months, with an extension if required to 9 months. This probationary period applies to all employees irrespective of their role or type of role. |
Garda Vetting | Stewarts Care will carry out Garda vetting on all new employees. An employee will not take up employment with the organisation until the Garda Vetting process has been completed and the organisation is satisfied that such an appointment does not pose a risk to the service users and employees. |
