Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a Facilities Specailist to join our team in Ireland, Athlone. The Facilities Specialist (FS) provides technical and operational support for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of GMP and non-GMP systems within a regulated pharmaceutical environment. This role ensures the reliability and performance of critical infrastructure — including HVAC, boilers, gas lines, compressed air, and plant equipment— while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and documentation.<br />The FS performs preventive and corrective maintenance, assists with vendor oversight, supports facility projects, and responds to daily work requests in accordance with cGMP, EHS, and site quality expectations.</p><p></p><p>Responsibilities</p><ul><li>Conduct daily walk-downs of mechanical rooms, plant spaces, and GMP areas to identify issues or potential risks.</li><li>Perform basic mechanical, electrical, and HVAC maintenance such as filter replacements and minor repairs.</li><li>Respond promptly to site work orders and ensure all work is documented accurately per GMP requirements.</li><li>Support laboratory equipment installations, relocations, and small facility improvement projects.</li><li>Assist with troubleshooting of utilities and facility systems to maintain uptime and compliance.</li><li>Compliance & Documentation</li><li>Complete all maintenance and repair records in full compliance with cGMP standards.</li><li>Support vendor-performed commissioning, qualification, and validation activities.</li><li>Participate in internal and external audits or inspections, providing technical input as required.</li><li>Safety & EHS</li><li>Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with EHS procedures, permit-to-work controls, and lockout/tagout standards.</li><li>Maintain organized, clean, and safe maintenance and plant areas.</li><li>Identify, report, and help correct safety hazards; actively participate in safety training and improvement programs.</li><li>Collaboration & Support</li><li>Participate in the on-call rotation and provide support during emergency or after-hours situations.</li><li>Contribute to energy efficiency, sustainability, and continuous improvement initiative</li><li>On call out of hours rota required.</li></ul><p>Requirements</p><ul><li>Technical diploma or equivalent in Facilities, Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services (or relevant trade certification).<br />2+ years of experience in facilities, maintenance, or utilities — preferably in a GMP or regulated environment.<br />Solid understanding of HVAC systems, utilities, and building management automation systems.<br />Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.<br />Experience with BMS systems preferred.<br />Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement</li></ul><p></p><p>Join Thermo Fisher Scientific and be part of a company that values inclusion, collaboration, and personal development.
