Post Summary
The NextGen Wi-Fi Project, part of Digital Trinity Infrastructure (DTI) programme, is a multi-annual, multi-million Euro project to replace the university’s Wi-Fi network with a new, next generation, Wi-Fi network. The current university networks, including Wi-Fi, extend across the full university estate on the main campus and to over ten satellite locations in Dublin. The Wi-Fi network consists of circa. 3,000 Wi-Fi Access Points, connected to approximately 300 Access Switches, in 180 data communications rooms, in 200 buildings. The Wi-Fi network regularly serves 20,000 concurrent users with over 10Ge sustained traffic via the university’s 100Ge Internet connections.
The new Wi-Fi network will be designed to provide capacity requirements and optimal coverage in the 6GHz spectrum. This is a significant logistical project. It involves replacing, enhancing and expanding the network and its core elements including access points, structured cabling and access switches. Key elements include Wi-Fi design, coverage and capacity planning, procurement, logistics, management of staff and contractors, and coordination and health and safety.
There is a requirement to appointment an experienced Project Manager (PM) to plan, organize and manage the delivery of this project. The PM will report to the Deputy Director of IT Services, who is the Project Sponsor. The PM will be responsible for the project budget, schedule and quality delivery and management of a project team and multiple external contractors. The PM will actively engage with the IT Services Project Office and the University Project Management Office.
Post status: Specific Purpose Contract
This appointment is for a specific purpose to implement the *Digital Trinity Infrastructure – Next Generation Wi-Fi Project. *The role of Project Manager is required solely for the duration of this project.
The position is not permanent because it is linked to a capital project rather than an ongoing operational need. Once the project is completed and objectives are met, the requirement for this role will cease.

Salary:
This appointment will be made on the Administrative 1 (Points 1-6), Salary Scale (€69,545 - €110,118 per annum) at a point in line with current Government pay policy.
