Research Engineer - Finite Element Modelling, UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, 24 months with possibility of extension Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Engineer - Finite Element Modelling within the UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. This role is part of the European Research Council (ERC) funded project “BreastRecon: A patient-specific approach to tissue expansion in breast reconstruction.” The successful candidate will work closely with a collaborative team of seven researchers spanning biomechanics, computational modelling, materials science, and clinical research. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated researcher to contribute to the advancement of patient-specific computational modelling of skin growth for applications in breast reconstruction. The successful candidate will lead the development of high-fidelity finite element models to investigate surface wave propagation in soft biological tissues, forming the foundation for subsequent statistical and machine learning frameworks that integrate experimental and computational datasets. The overarching objective of this work is to establish predictive, patient-specific models capable of forecasting clinical outcomes in breast reconstruction, thereby contributing to the broader goal of personalising reconstructive surgical planning. This post offers an excellent opportunity for an independent and motivated researcher to contribute to cutting-edge, translational research at the interface of computational biomechanics, data science, and reconstructive surgery.
