Description

UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 - Microbiologist/Biotechnologist, UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering, 12 months with potential to extend subject to funding Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 - Microbiologist/Biotechnologist within UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering. The lack of cost-effective, real-time monitoring and control systems means that bioprocesses which include Anaerobic Digestion (AD), brewing, distilling and dairy processing, are operated sub-optimally and as such are experiencing loses in productivity, yields and profits. These loses could be alleviated if key analytes that indicate bioprocess performance, could be quantified, automatically, accurately, cost effectively and in real time. This Enterprise Ireland Commercialisation fund project titled - “Microorganism Based Biosensor Platform” seeks to commercialise a microorganism based biosensor platform that has been developed in UCD to provide real time and cost-effective analyte detection bioprocesses. The position being advertised is for an experienced Postdoc in Microbiology/Biotechnology to lead the project’s biosensor development work package. This will require extensive genetic engineering, microbiology, regulatory and project management experience to: 1. expand the biosensors’ E. coli based analyte detecting catalogue, 2. plan and implement one or more commercial biosensor trials 3. contribute technical input to the project’s commercialisation activities. Fixed Salary: €54,307 Per Annum Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on the 30th of January 2026. Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 12:00 noon (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications. UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CVs submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned. The PD2 post is intended for researchers who have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.
