UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1, UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science, Fixed-term post until 31 August 2026
Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science.
We have isolated novel fungi as mycoprotein substrates for food use. Working with industry we are using our fungi, cultivated in liquid culture and crop residues, as an ingredient for food stuffs. Now we want to optimize fungal production on both waste crop residues and on synthetic substrates, both in terms of biomass and nutritional content. We are seeking a postdoctoral scientist to assist a research fellow with these experiments. While the initial appointment is for six months, subject to a funding application (under review), there may be the option to extend the contract for an additional two years. The specific remit will be to assess the potential of fungi to grow on other waste crop substrates, to determine the nutritional content of derivative substrates (with some nutritional analysis outsourced), and to optimize these parameters. They will also assist in the optimization of growth on substrates currently used in the project.
Fixed Salary: €46,305 per annum
