The Agile Specialist (Grade 29) is a senior delivery leadership role responsible for end to end agile execution across one or more teams, value streams, or release trains. The role combines Scrum Master expertise, Release Train-level coordination, and enterprise Agile Practitioner capability, with accountability for delivery predictability, capacity planning, Rally metrics, operational support, and service level agreements (SLAs).
The role operates with significant autonomy and influence, enabling teams to deliver value predictably while balancing change delivery with operational demand.
Key Relationships:
- Product Owners and Product Management
- Engineering and Architecture Leads
- Operations and Infrastructure Teams
- Delivery and Technology Leadership
Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements and individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland will have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Dublin or Letterkenny office and telecommuting from a home-based office in a hybrid work model.
Primary Responsibilities:
Agile Delivery Leadership
- Serve as Scrum Master for 3 or more agile teams, ensuring effective planning, execution, review, and continuous improvement
- Act as a Release Train-level delivery lead, coordinating dependencies, risks, and delivery flow across multiple teams
- Facilitate alignment between Product, Engineering, Operations, and Infrastructure stakeholders
- Coach teams and stakeholders on agile principles, flow based delivery, and value driven prioritisation
- Accountability for delivery outcomes, not just process facilitation
- Influence across teams and stakeholders without direct line authority
- Ownership of capacity, predictability, and delivery health at a broader than team level
- Integration of operational support and SLAs into agile execution
- Contribution to organisational delivery maturity and standards
Capacity Planning & Predictable Delivery
- Own capacity planning at team and train level, ensuring realistic and sustainable delivery commitments
- Balance feature delivery, technical debt, operational support, and unplanned work within agreed capacity constraints
- Use Rally capacity planning and forecasting to provide transparency on delivery options, risks, and trade offs
- Proactively identify and escalate delivery risks related to capacity, dependencies, or demand volatility
Metrics, Reporting & Data Quality
- Be accountable for Rally data quality across teams, ensuring accurate and timely updates for delivery, financial, and audit reporting
- Define and maintain delivery dashboards covering execution health, predictability, throughput, and operational impact
- Use metrics to drive insight, decision making, and continuous improvement rather than compliance
Operational Support & SLAs
- Integrate operational and support work into agile planning and execution without destabilising delivery
- Define, document, and manage SLAs for delivery and operational work in collaboration with stakeholders
- Monitor SLA performance using agreed metrics and drive corrective actions where required
- Ensure operational incidents, defects, and support requests are visible, prioritised, and managed within Rally
Continuous Improvement & Agile Maturity
- Lead Inspect & Adapt and retrospective activities at team and train level
- Identify systemic impediments and work with leadership to resolve them
- Contribute to the evolution of enterprise agile standards, metrics, and ways of working
- Mentor and support less experienced Scrum Masters and Agile Practitioners
You will be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role, as well as providing development for other roles you may be interested in.

At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone. We believe everyone-of every race, gender, sexuality, age, location and income-deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life. Today, however, there are still far too many barriers to good health which are disproportionately experienced by people of color, historically marginalized groups and those with lower incomes. We are committed to mitigating our impact on the environment and enabling and delivering equitable care that addresses health disparities and improves health outcomes - an enterprise priority reflected in our mission.
