The General Manager of Specialty is a key role on the Digital Pharmacy leadership team, responsible for overseeing the overall performance and growth of the Optum Specialty Pharmacy business. Optum Specialty Pharmacy ("OSP") is the 3rd largest Specialty Pharmacy in the U.S serving over 700K unique patients.  OSP serves patients through a distinguished Centers of Excellence (COE) model focused on therapeutic categories such as Oncology, Inflammatory, Neurology, and Auto-immune.

 

This role has overall accountability for the Specialty P&L, collaborating with matrix partners, achieving financial commitments, driving market differentiation and growth, and collaborating with operational leaders on the service model of the business. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing complex and scaled P&Ls across a matrixed organization. The candidate should be proficient in financial management, strategic planning, product and operations. The Specialty GM will need to be a solid partner to other Optum Rx P&L leaders to deliver on common objectives to drive strategic growth and achieve collective performance targets.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • P&L Management: Oversee the financial performance of Specialty, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Ensure profitability and cost-effectiveness
  • Strategic Planning: Work with the Strategy and Planning team to develop and implement Annual Business Plan and Long-Range Plan to drive growth and achieve business objectives. Identify market opportunities and create initiatives to capitalize on them
  • Revenue and Earnings Growth: Deliver Specialty IOI Growth by driving volume and utilization to close the segment's share of the enterprise IOI gap
  • External Face of the Business: Grow market share in open market by engaging and influencing industry trade groups, represent the business in key customer and partner meetings, advocate and lead agenda with M&A targets, develop and promote the image of the business in collaboration with communications in a variety of media outlets
  • Strengthen Cross-Pharmacy Integration: Collaborate across Pharmacies to gain enterprise alignment by identifying synergies, integrated planning/reporting/KPIs across Specialty, Infusion, Frontier, CPS, and other pharmacy businesses
  • Matrix Collaboration: Work closely with matrix partners, including operations, growth, Industry Relations, marketing, capabilities, finance, and human resources, to align strategies and achieve business goals
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing direct and indirect leadership team. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Patient Focus: Ensure a high level of clinical quality, transaction quality, as well as provider and patient customer service satisfaction, measured by NPS and other key metrics. Address customer concerns, resolve issues promptly, and implement improvements based on feedback
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies. Maintain high standards of quality and safety
  • Performance Monitoring: Create systems to appropriately track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and identify areas for improvement

Required Qualifications: 

  • BA or equivalent degree
  • Healthcare management experience 
  • Experience in healthcare industry, in a senior management role
  • Demonstrated background in strategic planning and execution. Ability to identify market opportunities and drive growth initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience in managing P&L, budgeting, and track record of success in achieving targets
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams and creating a culture of excellence
  • Ability to deliver results in a matrix organization by collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to be a solid strategic thinking with problem-solving abilities and experience writing and delivering robust strategic plans
  • Proven excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven working knowledge of pharmacy regulatory requirements and industry standards

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • MBA or Advanced degree
  • Specialty Pharmacy experience
