As a Senior Manager, Data Engineering at Optum, you'll be responsible for working with key business and technical partners to develop industry-leading data solutions that provide insights and analytics that drive efficiency and value to clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with business partners (such as product, data science, platform, architecture, data steward), SMEs, developers to ensure a shared understanding of business and technical requirements and translating strategic objectives into clear delivery outcomes for OnePI/DOCC
  • Lead, Coach and develop a distributed OnePI/DOCC data engineering team, setting clear ownership, delivery expectations, enabling execution while removing bottlenecks, and developing capability through mentoring and performance management
  • Experience managing Agile delivery, backlog governance, and cross-team execution for globally distributed engineering teams balancing strategic priorities with operational commitments
  • Drive end-to-end delivery and operational health of DOCC/One PI, ensuring production reliability, stable orchestration and establishing scalable engineering patterns that prevent recurring operational incidents
  • Drive data quality, governance and operational standards in partnership with senior stakeholders to ensure trusted, lineage-aware and AI ready data assets aligned enterprise
  • Demonstrate superior communication and presentation capabilities, adept at simplifying complex data insights for audiences without a technical background enabling senior stakeholders to make informed decisions

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading global data engineering delivery in cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Azure, enterprise data environments), driving execution, capability growth and team development
  • Proven familiarity with CI/CD, Git workflows, Airflow orchestration, data modelling, ETL/ELT pipelines, medallion architecture and production data platform operations
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills to engage and communicate effectively with ability to simplify complex concepts to executives, customers and audiences of different backgrounds within the organization
  • Demonstrated application of delivery and operational excellence methodologies (e.g. PMP, Lean Six Sigma, Safe/LeSS Agile leadership
  • Snowflake: Working proficiently in SQL skills to support data warehouse, performance optimisation and quality governance operations
  • Demonstrated understanding of Co-pilot usage for use-cases, GenAI ready data platform designs including scalable data modelling, governance and retrieval architectures (RAG, LLM workflows etc.) to support enterprise AI adoption
