Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Kilkenny

Onsite/Hybrid: Hybrid  

Contract Type: Permanent 

Hours: Mon-Friday 8.30am-5.30pm

Overview of the role:

Due to continued success and growth across the Water division, we are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual to join our Design Team as a Mechanical Design Engineer. The successful candidate will work on a wide scope of Water and Wastewater Treatment projects across the Island of Ireland. 

This is an exciting role where you will have the opportunity to develop your engineering design skills by joining the world leader in innovative Water and Wastewater solutions. As part of this role you will form an integral part of the design and project delivery team with particular focus on mechanical equipment selection, hydraulic system design, engineering calculations, and technical specifications. You will collaborate with our drawing team to translate your design concepts into technical drawings.

Day to day of the role:

  • Developing innovative design solutions for water and wastewater treatment infrastructure, including mechanical equipment selection and specifications, hydraulic design, plant layouts and P&IDs

  • Responsible for assisting in all aspects of Mechanical design from site surveys of existing assets, optioneering, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender pricing.

  • Collaborating with the Senior Design Engineer to support end to end design projects with the support of the wider Design team 

  • Liaising with clients from initial concept, feasibility, detailed design, implementation to final delivery

  • Maintaining a high standard of work ensuring that you are compliant with all specifications and engineering practices 

  • Act as a point of contact to deal with any technical issues throughout projects 

  • Linking with a variety of Project Managers, Design Leads and Sub Consultants throughout each stage of the project

  • Conduct detailed design calculations and equipment selections 

  • Working alongside our highly experienced drawing team to develop P&IDs and design drawings

  • Production of procurement specifications for mechanical equipment and production of detailed design construction drawings.

  • Liaise between Process, Draughting, Electrical and Civil & Structural Designers

  • Ensuring that all Project Documentation is managed according to the requirements of the Project Quality Plan and project specific requirements

Required skills for this role:

  • Level 7/8/9 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  • Strong mechanical engineering design fundamentals including fluid mechanics and hydraulics

  • Experience with engineering design calculations for pumping systems, pipework networks, and hydraulic systems

  • Experience in the Water Industry (Desirable)

  • Previous experience in industries such as Water, Pumping/Piping, Fluid Handling Systems, Oil/Gas (Desirable)

  • Ability to work on own initiative and effectively manage & coordinate design

  • Practical site experience (Desirable)
