Due to continued growth, we are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems within engineering projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and clients.
Responsibilities
Conduct in-depth reviews of tender documents, drawings, specifications, and schedules.
Ensure quantity take-offs and marked-up measured drawings are accurately prepared.
Request, manage, and evaluate supplier and sub-contractor quotations.
Issue tender queries and RFIs.
Prepare costed bills of quantities, tender pricing schedules, tender reports and other tender return documents.
Identify potential value engineering opportunities and alternative solutions to optimise project budgets.
Maintain and manage a pricing database.
Attend meetings and site visits when required.
Adhere to tender return deadlines.
Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams.
Analyse project requirements, materials, labour, and subcontractor costs to provide competitive and accurate estimates.
Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotes for materials and services.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure alignment with project budgets and objectives.
Prepare and present bid proposals and cost reports to management and clients.
Requirements
Degree in Mechanical, Process, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
Previous mechanical cost estimating experience in a contracting environment, with experience managing tenders from enquiry to award stage.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and process pipework.
Good understanding of different mechanical & process pipework materials.
Proficiency in estimating software and MS Office, especially Excel.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, perform accurate take-offs, and prepare detailed BOQs.
Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and multitasking abilities
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
