We are seeking to grow our world‑class team to ensure we continue to deliver the high calibre of service and technical excellence both we and our clients expect. We are involved in many key projects of regional and national significance, alongside our core UK and global framework projects.

We have an opportunity for Assistant Geoenvironmental Consultants to join our team. This role is specifically to support contaminated land assessment, geoenvironmental investigations, and remediation projects.

You will be based in our Naas, Ireland office. We offer a flexible and hybrid working environment, enabling employees to work from home for part of the week.

Key Responsibilities

Project and Task Support

  • Assisting with project coordination and contributing to day‑to‑day task delivery.
  • Supporting planning activities for site investigation and assessment work.

Site Investigations

  • Assisting with the management and delivery of site investigations.
  • Supporting fieldwork including: 
    • Soil and rock logging
    • Environmental sampling
    • Groundwater sampling
    • Ground gas and vapour monitoring
    • Coordination of laboratory chemical and geotechnical testing

Data & Reporting

  • Collating, reviewing and interpreting field and laboratory data.
  • Preparing sections of technical reports including desk studies, ground investigation reports, risk assessments, and remediation/verification reporting.
  • Assisting with site investigation design and programme planning.

Client and Team Support

  • Supporting the development of strong client relationships.
  • Ensuring that all work is delivered in line with WSP procedures and to the highest safety, health and environmental standards.
  • Working closely with senior team members and supporting early‑career colleagues as you gain experience.

Our team across Ireland and the UK has over 150 professionals at all grades providing land contamination and geoenvironmental services to private and public sector clients in the property, government agency, industrial, defence and nuclear sectors.

Our multi‑disciplinary expertise means we are well‑placed to support your career development. We have several exciting projects in the pipeline, including work supporting the energy transition and nuclear decommissioning.

WSP provides an excellent environment in which to grow professionally. As an Assistant Consultant, you will be fully supported and play an important role in the day‑to‑day delivery of projects, working closely with project managers, senior consultants and project directors.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

Experience

  • Awareness of the requirements for planning, designing and managing site investigations.
  • Understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations as they apply to safe site investigation practices (training will be provided).
  • An interest in the land contamination regime within the Ireland and the risk‑based approach to assessment.
  • Ireland land-side site investigation experience, including logging of soil/made ground, well installation design and environmental sample collection.
  • Report writing skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and accurately.
  • Experience with data handling; GIS skills are desirable.
  • Awareness (or willingness to learn) of relevant regulatory regimes such as planning, environmental permitting, due diligence, environmental impact assessment etc.
  • Interest in specialist technical areas such as quantitative risk assessment, hydrogeology, remediation, waste/material management or impact assessments.

Qualifications

  • A relevant technical degree, e.g. geology, chemistry, biology, engineering, environmental science or related discipline.
  • Working towards, or willing to work towards, a relevant professional qualification (e.g. Chartership).
  • The ability to travel is essential.
