A little more about your role…
The Cultural Heritage and Archaeology team is one of the largest heritage consultancies in the country. It works across the UK and Ireland and covers all aspects of the historic environment (archaeology, built heritage, setting and design) throughout the full lifecycle of projects. We provide our clients with expert advice on an ever-increasing portfolio of heritage related enquiries that address the management of change in our historic environment. We work on high profile and large-scale infrastructure projects in the UK, Ireland and further afield as part of a multi-disciplinary team and aim to deliver high quality work while contributing to innovative approaches and challenges within the heritage sector.
Role - The Resident Archaeologist shall be based in designated MetroLink offices and will have to attend to site works (including weekend and night works on occasion) in the Dublin region. The successful candidate is required to work five days per week.
The key areas of responsibility for this role are:
- To support the TII assigned Project Archaeologist for Light Rail projects in the performance of their duties.
- On-site supervision, coordination, record keeping of Light Rail Projects including MetroLink
- Reviewing draft method statements, progress reports, excavation reports, architectural heritage reports, cultural heritage reports etc.
- To review curriculum vitae of proposed consultant / contractor staff changes and ensure compliance with archaeological requirements.
- Keep a comprehensive diary constituting a detailed work history of archaeological services and significant incidents/occurrences on site and during post-excavation.
- Ensure that detailed reports, diaries, and records (hard and soft copies), including photographic records, in relation to all aspects of progress of the works are kept and available for inspection by authorised personnel.
- Ensure that all day work records and all variations from specification are approved and documented prior to execution.
- Keep record of all information relating to delays, industrial disputes, adverse physical conditions and disputes with sub-contractors and landowners.
- Attend, with other necessary site supervisory staff as required, regular site meetings and ensure that proceedings are minutes for circulation to all relevant personnel.
- Keep other site supervisory staff informed on matters which may influence their work.
- Assist with the administration of the various archaeological services contracts.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Be a qualified archaeologist.
- A third level qualification in Archaeology Level 8 (NFQ) and ten years relevant post-graduate experience (If the candidate has a Level 9 (NFQ), five years relevant post-graduate experience will be acceptable).
- Experience of working on an Archaeological Code of Practice (as agreed with the Department) project at a senior level e.g., Site Director, Senior Archaeologist, Contractor’s Consultant Archaeologist or Project Archaeologist.
- Fulfilled the duties of a Project Archaeologist under a Code of Practice agreed with the Department or demonstrate experience of fulfilling similar duties on another project.
- Proven ability in managing archaeological excavation and post-excavation work and dealing with archaeological investigation on large scale development.
- Familiarity with the typical archaeology that is likely to be encountered in urban and rural environments in Ireland.
- Experience in preparation of archaeological licence applications and associated method statements for complex archaeological projects.
- Experience in the undertaking archaeological heritage impact assessments.
- Detailed knowledge of relevant archaeology and heritage legislation and its implications for the management of archaeology on TII projects.
- Currently hold and maintain a full driving licence.
- Have access to a vehicle to carry out site inspections and visits etc.
