Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Optical Network Migration Engineer to support the discovery, planning and delivery of large-scale optical transport network migration projects across a legacy Infinera DWDM environment.
The successful candidate will remotely access the customer's Legacy Infinera DNA Network Management System (NMS) to extract network inventory, service and traffic data, analyse optical network performance, develop migration strategies and Method of Procedure (MoP) documentation, and support the execution of live migrations during planned maintenance windows.
This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong technical expertise in optical transport networks, Infinera platforms and live service migration.
Responsibilities
Network Discovery & Analysis
- Access and interrogate the Legacy Infinera DNA Platform to extract network inventory, configurations and service information.
- Perform traffic profiling, service utilisation analysis and dependency mapping.
- Analyse optical network topology, wavelengths, circuits and fibre paths.
- Identify migration constraints, critical services and migration risks.
- Produce technical discovery reports and migration assessments.
Migration Planning
- Develop migration strategies and implementation plans for live production networks.
- Produce detailed Method of Procedure (MoP) documentation, including rollback plans.
- Use traffic profiling and dependency analysis to sequence migration waves and minimise customer impact.
- Support migration readiness reviews with customers and project teams.
Migration Delivery
- Execute remote migration activities during planned maintenance windows.
- Perform pre-change validation and post-migration service testing.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and support rollback where required.
- Produce migration completion and acceptance documentation.
Optical Network Engineering
- Analyse optical power levels and fibre attenuation.
- Analyse Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio (OSNR).
- Analyse Chromatic Dispersion (CD) and Polarisation Mode Dispersion (PMD).
- Support optical amplifiers, wavelength continuity and optical path integrity.
- Interpret Forward Error Correction (FEC), BER and optical alarms.
- Investigate fibre impairments and overall network performance
