The Role:
The Asset Management and Sustainability area is responsible for the development of asset policies, strategies and plans to determine the significant investment required into Ireland’s infrastructure. The area drives investment and the Sustainability and Innovation agenda for the organisation and leads on Environmental Regulation and Compliance activities, ensuring the quality of water and wastewater is continuously monitored. The Asset Management function is responsible for strategic planning, prioritisation, and development of Uisce Éireann’s Capital Works pipeline. The function plays a key role in promoting collaboration and co-ordination of activities across the three asset functions as well as providing environmental assessment and management expertise across Uisce Éireann.
The Asset Strategy Team responsibility is to develop strategic plans for all water, wastewater, and natural assets and to ensure the authorisation of the asset base. The scope of the team's responsibility covers 5 main areas: environmental strategy, water asset strategy, wastewater asset strategy, forward planning, and planning strategy.
Reporting to the National Strategic Plan Manager, the Water Asset Strategy Technical Lead is responsible for the management of water supply projects that enable a safe and sustainable supply of water to meet planned needs and serviceability standards. The role holder is accountable for driving strategic initiatives that enhance Uisce Éireann’s asset management, sustainability and overall asset strategy success.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive the Asset Management team in the development of drought management plans ensuring consistency in planning across Uisce Eireann and alignment with relevant environmental legislation.
Review external legislation, plans and policy and identify risks and opportunities.
Provide reports and insights by collating and clearly presenting the relevant information in a timely manner.
Coordinate hydrological and environmental assessments to support development of drought plans.
Conduct analysis of trends and data to identify and escalate relevant issues or risks
Maintain focus on the achievement of project outcomes and collaborate with other teams as required to ensure their delivery
Support the development of policies and procedures related to abstraction management and source protection.
Provide technical input into strategic water resource planning, including drought management and resilience assessments.
Ensure that all plans, projects, and programmes are delivered in accordance with the relevant EU and National environmental legislation and all Uisce Éireann policies and guidance.
Develop new internal policies, as required, to ensure work is up to date and in line with legislation and the changing AI landscape.
Contribute to setting the team objectives and targets.
Engaging with internal and external stakeholders and integrating feedback into UÉ plans.
Managing internal and external resources.
Perform other such duties in relation to work and asset management as Uisce Éireann may reasonably require.
Actively research and seek industry best practice, providing feedback on latest industry developments via company-wide reports and presentations.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business
Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards
Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives
Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with Uisce Éireann’s Information Security policies, standards, processes and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of UÉ business information and delivery of critical services, in accordance with the NIS Directive and any other relevant cybersecurity regulation
Other duties as required
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Experience in water resource planning, including abstraction licensing and hydrological assessments, is beneficial but not essential.
Knowledge of environmental and regulatory frameworks such as the Water Framework Directive, Appropriate Assessment, and Environmental Impact Assessment is desirable
Relevant third level qualification and or accreditation is desirable and or relevant experience
A minimum of 5 years’ Experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable
Ability to develop and maintain effective strategic partnerships with key stakeholders internally and externally
Proven track record of creating a collaborative environment and communicating clearly within the team, with other teams and with external stakeholders
Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion along with the ability to communicate complex information to others
Experience in managing end-to-end processes to ensure delivery meets customer expectations
Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions
Demonstrate adaptability and the ability to change focus and direction in line with business strategy and requirements
Proactively identifying new areas of improvement using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job
Skilled in continuously reviewing safety practices and suggest ways for improvement
