About the Role:

H&MV Engineering is seeking an experienced, commercially minded and highly analytical Business Development support professional based in Ireland. This role will sit alongside the structured data and market intelligence activity carried out by the wider team, translating CRM outputs, market research, pipeline data and tender information into the “so what” for senior stakeholders. The position will operate across a broad cross-functional area, connecting Business Development, Estimating, ECI, Commercial, FP&A, Operations and regional leadership to provide clearer context on pipeline performance, bid/no-bid trends, conversion, market opportunity, business continuity risks and strategic challenges and opportunities. The role is designed for someone who can move beyond reporting production and provide interpretation, challenge, narrative and decision support for leadership forums, board reporting and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities:

Senior Reporting, Narrative & Strategic Context:

  • Translate pipeline, CRM, market intelligence and tender data into concise senior-level reporting that explains performance, risk, opportunity and strategic relevance.
  • Prepare narrative and analysis for board packs, leadership and investor updates, pipeline reviews and Business Development management forums.
  • Develop the “so what” from underlying datasets and market research, identifying what the information means for H&MV’s sectors, regions, customers and growth priorities.
  • Challenge outputs for accuracy, logic and commercial relevance before they are used in senior reporting or decision-making.
  • Support the development of consistent reporting packs, commentary templates and executive summaries.

Cross-Functional BD, Estimating & ECI Analysis:

  • Work across Business Development, Estimating, ECI, Commercial, FP&A and regional teams to analyse tender activity, conversion trends, bid/no-bid outcomes and workload implications.
  • Assess how ECI and traditional tendering routes are performing, including opportunity quality, customer engagement, conversion potential, resourcing demand and lessons learned.
  • Use information from pipeline systems, estimating trackers, ECI records and market intelligence to identify recurring themes, bottlenecks, wasted effort, margin risk or missed opportunity.
  • Provide context to support bid/no-bid discussions, strategic account planning, sector prioritisation and regional growth decisions.
  • Act as a connector between functions, ensuring reporting reflects the operational and commercial reality behind the data rather than presenting pipeline figures in isolation.

Market Intelligence Interpretation & Business Development Support:

  • Take structured market research, news monitoring, policy updates and sector intelligence produced by the wider support team and translate it into commercially useful context for H&MV.
  • Identify the implications of market developments for customer strategy, pipeline prioritisation, regional focus, sector outlooks and opportunity timing.
  • Support the preparation of market outlooks, leadership briefings and strategic updates by shaping raw research into clear themes, risks, opportunities and recommended focus areas.
  • Work with data and research resources to ensure outputs are directed, quality-checked, interpreted and integrated into wider Business Development analysis.
  • Help maintain continuity across market intelligence, CRM reporting and strategic analysis so outputs remain consistent, usable and aligned to leadership requirements.

Key Requirements:

  • Relevant 3rd level qualification in business, economics, finance, data analytics, strategy, commercial management or a related discipline.
  • Advanced capability in Excel, PowerPoint and structured reporting; experience with CRM systems, Power BI or management reporting tools.
  • Experience in Business Development, commercial analysis, estimating support, project controls, market intelligence, strategy, operations analysis or a similar cross-functional role.
  • Strong understanding of how pipeline, tendering, estimating, customer engagement and market intelligence connect to wider business strategy.
  • Proven ability to interpret data and research outputs, develop context and communicate insight to senior stakeholders.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to move from data production to interpretation, challenge and recommendation.
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly in preparing senior-level commentary, executive summaries and board-ready analysis.
  • Confident cross-functional stakeholder management, with the ability to work across Business Development, Estimating, FP&A, Commercial, Operations and regional leadership.
  • Strong analytical capability, including the ability to identify patterns, risks, inconsistencies and hidden implications across multiple information sources.
  • High level of ownership, discretion and reliability in handling senior reporting, sensitive commercial information and time-critical deliverables.
  • Ability to create structure from ambiguity, document process knowledge and strengthen business continuity across a broad Business Development support function.
